Steering wheel puller?

I've had luck in the past loosening the nut that holds the steering wheel on,pulling up on the steering wheel and having a helper strike the steering wheel shaft . Just make sure you leave the nut on the shaft & try to hit the shaft straight on. Use a brass drift if you have one. Good luck!

Do I really need to rent one to pull the steering wheel? Or can I just scream and curse at it until I can yank it off?

I've removed hundreds of steering wheels without using a puller. It's sitting in a taper so you need to pull and push to distort the shape and it'll drop out. Just like a ball joint or tie rod but without the hammer!
