I'm curious, what did you say to the dealer to convince them to replace the steering gear under warranty? Is there recall/repair reference number issued by Toyota?

I have just over 30k on my 2012 TE and I have had my wheels balanced at least 4-5 times trying to cure the vibration. Re-balancing makes it slightly better but it is always still there. I dread taking it to a dealership since the customer service at all the ones nearby is beyond atrocious. I guess I will give it one last try to see if they will do anything about it.

I'm in FL and have a Pro as well. For me, the steering wheel was off center 2 degrees. The car pulled to the right and had vibration b/n 60-65. Master tech spent entire day and drove about 30miles. He discovered the Nitto tires upfront were egg shaped, not round like the rear tires. Both front's were replaced and balanced. There are no more vibrations or pull to the right at this time.
Picked up a passenger seat buzz noise, but plan to diagnose and fix myself. Only makes noise when no passenger is sitting on the seat..
Only question I've asked on the TRD PRO thread is the noise like something is lose spinning around when D or R are engaged and can be heard up to 20mph before the wheel noise takes over. The dealer had two Trails and one Pro on site and all three had the noise when D or R selected. Appears when a load is applied to the drivetrain, something is moving around..?
Glad to hear your steering was fixed. Love the overall look and feel of the T4R TRD Pro. Hope to see it go 200K w/o much fuss..

Mine has been in the shop for a day now. They are "trying to make a determination" as to what is wrong. Wondering the answer to this question as well as it seems that Toyota, unlike Lexus, won't take ownership of the problem.

I'm having this issue as well. Bought my 2010 from a Toyota dealer last year that installs a toytec lift and aftermarket wheels. Swapped the aftermarket wheels for oems and have nothing but vibrations ever since. The LR disco 2s had a similar problem but it was a front drive shaft balance issue. I'm following this Oslo as mine is getting worse.
Same issue on 2015 SR5 Premium. I ditched the stock wheel/tire set up since the dealer solution was to rotate the tires :der:
On the 20" Aftermarket set up from Tire Rack I do/did have the same issue. A local tire shop has been able to solve the problem for my 2 fronts with balancing, still working on the 2 rear though.

hmm, I just put new wheels on my 2012 and started getting highway vibration, ride was smooooth on stock wheels. They were balanced but its a hole in the wall shop that did it, after I get my 5100s installed I'm going to get alignment and re balance the wheels. Fingers crossed.

I had previously said a tire balance fixed it but I guess I was so used to how terrible it shook that I had to drive a different car to realize mine was off. My steering wheel vibrates and feels like I'm holding an electric razor(or marital aid) at most speeds.
I've also got a weird feeling in the front end when I apply the brakes with low to medium pressure and the whole front end vibrates. At higher pressure the steering wheel shakes back and forth like an out of balance tire.
I'm taking it in tomorrow to get a new alignment, swinging by discount tire to get a new balance on just the front tires, and stopping by the mechanice to make sure all the bolts are tight in the front end because I'm getting a strange banging sound when I have the wheel turned and backing into a spot.
Still have the annoying banging coming from the rear driver's side when the tire hits a pothole or crack in the road so it falls and then rebounds to the previous spot.
They're nothing but irritants at this point but I've had less expensive and older cars that had none of these issues.

All of mine have been roadforce balances with the correct adapter... if that was meant for me haha
Not directed at anyone in particular, just my experience with both the FJ and now the 4Runner.

Finally got Toyota to replace the steering rack. Night and day difference.
I now have what feels like a loose ball joint or linkage but no more steering wobble. Thank all that is holy.
How and what dealership?
Stevenson West. It was a culmination of many many trips though and multiple tires balancing experiences. Ultimately I had to drive with a Toyota Field service rep before they would agree to cover it, but the rep recommended Stevenson.
Hoping that it's a little easier if the ball joint UCA is actually going out.
Whatever you do don't take it to Stapp/Interstate Toyota. Those guys are terrible.
You will need to break this down to trim models:
* SR5
* Trail
* Limited
As each of these 4Runner models are different beasts with different parts (especially in the suspension area, AWD/4WD system, and tire sizes).
I own the 2014 Limited model with OEM 245/60R/20 Bridgestone tires without any vibration issues at this time.
