Update

I have recently changed my wheels and tires back to the stock Duellers and trail rims.

Since the day I got them put back on, butter smooth. Nothing. Where as the day before I had a wobble/vibration with my KO2 package. Which have been road force balanced multiple times.

At this point I am thinking it is something to do with my rims needing hub centric rings and the different style wheel nut holding them on? The stock nuts seem to sit into the wheel and give it possibly a snugger fit at the measly 85lb/ft of torque that the wheels take. Who knows.

But I am going to leave my stock wheels and tires on, tired of dealing with the vibration. Will wear out the stock tires and then get something in 265 and a lighter/softer tire but something more AT than the duellers.

Stock from the factory had a little shimmy going on @ 65-75. Almost wanna say it got worse with more miles. Never said anything under warranty

After casting my vote (vibration not fixed) this morning before I picked up my car from the shop, the vibration is now gone (at least on my 10 mile drive home). Cruised from 55-70 trying to see if it's there but nothing.

Here's what I had done: Bilstein/Toytec 3"/2" lift and Falken AT3W 285s on SCS SR8. Also did a diff drop, not sure if that has any effect on the vibration

2016 TRD Pro, KO2 stock size. After a tire rotation I noticed a pretty good wobble at 60 mph. Took it in to local Discount Tire who spin balanced it, and no change. Took it to another Discount Tire today and per the forum, had it roadforce balanced and most of the wobble is now gone. I was told they took tire off and flipped it due to tire being heavier on the outside.

Another update

For anyone still having this issue... Here is my story so far.

After many tire balances, TOE alignments, selling my aftermarket wheels and tires and many stresses...

I checked my LCA bolt torque on a hunch and wouldn't you know it... They were notably loose. Torque spec is 130lb ft for the LCA bolts and they took roughly 2-3 45 degree turns to get to spec...

Since doing this my front end feels... NEW. As it should. I had Bilstein 5100s installed when truck was at roughly 2,000kms and it is now at 17,000kms. I was driving around like this for 15,000kms... Since doing this a few days ago the truck tracks straighter, front end feels like a rock AND no shaking what so ever. The steering did shake the day before and tires were not touched, only the LCA bolts torqued to spec. I am going to drive it for the next few weeks hoping that this is the final fix however I recommend everyone to check this.

This also explains why the steering vibration comes and goes. That is not a normal wheel vibration. I am guessing this was caused depending on how the LCAs were sitting at that certain time. Temps also could have had a factor in this too since they were under spec.

Anyone having any odd feelings/vibrations from the front end of the truck PLEASE check the torque on the LCA bolts you will possibly be very happy that you did not a hard thing to check either as the rear bolts are easily accessible and the fronts are accessed when the skid plate removed.

recently had my tires road force balanced at America's Tires at the Puente Hills Mall, CA. So far vibration is gone but we'll see. All their machines are road force balancer and those techs dont mess around.

I’m close enough to Puente Hills Mall that I’m willing to give it a shot. I’m assuming they have the lug centric adapter? Did your vibration stay away after this?

give them a shot. I had a rotation done there a few months ago and i think my tires are suspect. When I moved front tires to back and back to front, the vibration came back.

Just purchased a 2018 ORP. Now has 600 miles. I have had the vibration since driving it home. Only happens between 56-65 MPH.

I guess I get to start my journey down this fun road. It doesn't sound too promising. Only a small percentage have reported help for road force balance with haweka plate or switching tires.

Just as a general consensus what are all of you affected with this doing with your 4runners if they have or can not be fixed? Are you just living with it or just getting a new car?

I’ve had my 2018 SR5P for almost a month now and noticed it off and on since I drove it home the night I bought it. It only happens around 60mph. Still running stock wheels and tires. I’ve considered taking it back to the dealership to be assessed but from what it sounds like here, they aren’t going to be much help. Oy. What to do, what to do?

Mine started doing this after I installed my lift. Had an alignment done and it tracks straight, but just has vibration around 65-75 mph.

my only solution so far is speed up.. goes away around 70mph. 55-65ish its typically consistent. I do however seem to notice that if I floor it onto the highway it is worse than if I gradually accelerate up to highway speed

have a 2015 4runner sr5 4x4... just got back from two tire shops, phone call from bridgestone and a body shop. Everyone who has ever touched my car, aligned my car, rotated my car in some way has given me proof that everything was done to specs. I went through 80k tires in 20k miles. Completely bare. The guy at the body shop is old school and did the whole measure and string thing like they did back on the days to have to align cars... it's the rear axle. the rear axle is offset and crooked by over half an inch compared to the other side measuring from the same place on the front of the car to the middle of the rims. Have the same shimmy problem when i'm hitting around 65 mph. Called toyota, of course they blamed everyone else, didn't have an appointment open for weeks... told them i'm not going to buy new tires because the problem isn't fixed.. they said well you've already driven around on an unsafe car, whats another few weeks.... are you kidding me?! Called toyota 800 number... she didn't give two shits either. Pissed is an understatement. Wrote up a review on safecar.gov or the natl highway whatever it is now. But might be something for you guys to look into as well.. looks as though I'm screwed at my dealership here until theres a death from it and a recall is issued. Old school body shop guy thinks it's a shit weld job somewhere on the rear axle as it's fixed and unable to be aligned

I get a slight vibration at around 65, but not consistent. Tends to happen only on cold mornings when I get immediately on the highway. Can’t be wheels and tires because I’ve changed both and it still happens once in a while. It’s barely noticeable and I don’t cruise at 65 so I’ve just ignored it but it is odd.

update on wheel flutter

I had a road force balance done. LF: 10lbs LR: 8lbs RF: 15 lbs RR: 13 lbs

The local tire experts in town used the hunter machine with the haweka adapter. He reports that in doing this for 35 years anything 15 and under is great for the OEM bridgestones that I have. Being such a large tire it is hard to get them better than that.

Well unfornately that didn't help my problem. As a last ditch effort I had him take the LR 8lb tire and move it to the RF. That was the majic thing. The flutter stopped. For how long I have no idea.

So for me a road force balance of less than 10 was necessary to get rid of the flutter.

The remaining questions that I would love some answers to

1. Do I rotate the tires at the 5000 mile check? Do I switch the fronts from left to right? Do I do nothing with the tires until the flutter comes back (because thats what I am leaning toward doing)

2. Does anyone elses 4 runner track to the right? I had an alignment done already but that didn't help.

My brand new 2018 T4R has the steering wheel shimmy. I'm not surprised because the Tacoma is sensitive to tire imbalances too.

I'm all too familiar with this problem. When I bought a 2nd gen Tacoma it had the same problem and the dealer couldn't fix it after numerous re-balancing and new set of tires. It was fixed when I took it to a small mom & pop tire shop that had the road force machine & Haweka (finger plate adapter) and knew how to use both together. Even Discount Tire with the road force machine & finger plate adapter couldn't balance correctly until I took it the other shop. Just because a shop has all of the right equipment (i.e Toyota Dealer), it's still no good if the techs don't know what they are doing.

I guess I have to give the dealer a shot with my new T4R. If they can't fix then off to the tire shop I go at my expense

Picked my 18 TRD Pro 4 runner with 2 miles on it. Currently has 490miles. It has a shimmy at around 60-65mph or so. Some days its there, some day it isnt. Sometimes it worse than others, sometimes its not. IDK it annoys me but doesnt bother me that much. I dont want to take it to the dealer cause they'll scratch the wheels which will reallly really really annoy me and theyll say it will happen with a impact (bs, i used to work as a tech and if you're careful it wont).

I replaced the KO2 with ST Maxx and issue was gone!
