Stereo Wiring Help

So...I'm very new to anything electrical, pardon my ignorance. I just bought
some new 6x9 speakers. They sounded worse than the 15+ year old ones in
there so I figured I might not be getting enough power from the receiver. Pulled
the old one out (25 watt) and found a pretty interesting wiring job. There is a
black box with the black and red wires going into it. The red wire then has a 6 amp fuse.
The yellow wire has a .5 amp fuse. I put the new one in (240 watt)
and left those fuses in place.
Time to see if it works! At first it sounded fantastic. I tried to turn it up and it
started cutting out, and then the 6 amp fuse (power wire) blew. Anybody have
any idea what these fuses are for and if I can just bypass them? Also, whats
the black box? Like I said Im new to electrical things, Thanks. Also, haven't
figured out how to size down the pictures.

Wish I could help shiver. But I am not too good with wiring myself. From the looks of it, someone has gone in there and made a mess of the wiring. If it were mine, I would take anything out that is not toyota factory and put in only what you need to run your head unit.

Sorry, I'm no help. But I know enough to know that doesn't look good. I'd rip all that out, back to the factory wiring, and start from scratch.

I do know electronics.
The little black box is a power line filter to eliminate alternator whine.
I can't comment on the rest right now because I'm doing this on my phone and the screen is too small to see details in the pics.

I'll also move this to the Audio & Eletronics section where it might help someone else later.

So I bypassed that 6 amp fuse that blew, still nothing

Cig lighter fuse is fine, so is the 10 amp one in the back of the new head unit

Serious hack job there... If you can I would go with the sugestion of removing all the aftermarket non-toyo wires. That big White harness in teh background of your pic is the only harness you need for power, memory, remote and dimmer if it's on your new radio. it also has the front and left speakers wired to it, the other smaller harness has the rear speakers wired to it.
Best thing, DON'T hook up anything to any after market wires. lots of people "rig" things to work and then leave the extra wiring and Bs behind.
If worse comes to worse crutchfield sells a direct plug in for the Runners, it's about $9 and by passes the factory amp (you wont need it anyway)

Good news! Got it workin and damn its a huge improvement over the old one. All the important wires were ripped out of that harness, so no go with that. I did get the harness kit so if that was intact it woulda been an easy job. I first tried to take out that black box, still didn't work. Then I bypassed that .5 amp fuse on the yellow wire and presto! we have liftoff. One thing I read while trying to figure this out is that that yellow wire has a fuse so it doesnt drain the battery while the car is off? Should I be worried about this?

no... fuse offers no protection for battery consumption. It protects against surges shorts or overloads but it wont keep your battery from draining.
