sticky brake pad?

So I have a new '08 4runner with 3K miles on it. I've noticed that when I release the brake after coming to a stop, it feels like one of brake pads is "sticking." I don't know which one, or if it is a brake pad in the first place. I just feel a slight 'knock' when I gradually depress the brake pedal.

Any idea what could be causing this?

my 04 does the same thing, and last week there was a thread on here where a few other people have the same problem as well

not sure if its brakes or driveshaft or whatever but ive learned to live with it. my old 98 did this as well.. maybe its a toyota thing? not suer but if you figure anything out let me know !

Yes, yes...that was me who posted the same problem a few weeks ago. I have a 2008 with 18K and i'm positive it's the same issue as yours.

Someone mentioned the drive shaft needs to be greased, and that they do it at the dealership when you get an oil change. Since my vehicle was a prior rental, i'm sure it hasn't been dealer serviced. I'm planning on getting a dealer oil change next week and i'll mention the problem in the hopes that they know exactly what i'm talking about. Hopefully they'll grease'er up good and it'll go away.

I'll keep you guys posted how it plays out....

Please do. Although I never mentioned it to the dealer, I've already had an dealer oil change and I'm still having the issue.

OK...so I went in last Friday at the dealership and got an oil change.

The service adviser had absolutely no idea what I was talking about with driveline clunk...oh well...moved along. I just asked him to make sure the mechanic greased up the drive shaft and differential good.

They charged me an extra $16 for it but you know what?? Driveline clunk gone!! It took about a day to work itself out but I haven't experienced it once all week. And there's less vehicle movement when I shift from R to D.

As a side note, and this is probably in another thread somewhere. This was my first time getting an synthetic oil change...and I don't know if it's just me but the engine seems to be running a lot smoother.

All in all, a happy 4Runner owner...
