Sticky Hood

Have a question for you guys. Admittely I don't wash my 4Runner very often, but when I do I notice the same sticky substance on the leading edge of the hood.
Anyone else notice this?
Any ideas what it is?

Thanks

I have the exact same stuff on mine. Its been there for years. I have no idea what it is, but it's a pain to get off. I am at the point now where I just ignore it. However if someone knows the origin of it, I would be very interested to know.

I noticed the same thing and have no clue where it comes from. It does seem to be oil based in the sense that it never dries and gets hard or crusty. It stays pretty soft and will typically wipe off with a towel.

It is some type of cosmoline Toyota uses for the inner sheet metal in the hood for rust protection that is weeping out.

i have the same thing and its oddly sticky, but only in this corner...

i ignore it. As long as she starts up when i need her to and i can take her where i need to without every having to worry that im going to be broke down on the side of the road, i cannot complain.
