Stock "5 Star" Wheels & 285-75r16 Tires

I have researched stock 4runner "5-Star" wheels and the use of 285 75r16 tires, and the findings are clear as mud, some say don't do it, others say no problem....I have the Tundra 231 calipers with rotors which are working fine with the stock wheels. My question is will the OEM 4-Runner "5-Star" wheels on my 2000 Limited 4wd 4runner work with 285-75r16 tires....I have heard that they will not work due to rubbing on the UCA's, just hoping to get some real world opinions on this combination. I hate having to buy new wheels if they are not needed, but I don't want to mount tires on rims that are going to cause issues. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I ran 285s on 5 stars for a couple years, with stock UCAs and no spacers. They rubbed just slightly on the UCA but nothing too worrisome.

No problems with BFGoodrich A/T KO2's. They rubbed the frame a little at full steering lock, but other than that they were fine. I did end up adding Spidertrax wheel spacers simply cause I wanted to push the wheels out some.

Look at [MENTION=65101]BrianSD_42[/MENTION] build thread. I am pretty sure thats exactly what he is running, and on that wheel. I think I remember reading that he had minor rubbing on the pinch welds.

I'm running 285s on mine for years. I just put on spacers because I want a wider stance

hm, lift went on today and both the sway bars came off lol, looks like I better check into some wheel spacers asap

Full droop rub and like stated keeping front sway bar connected and you might not rub at all.

I rubbed with fierce attitude mt tires. Rear rubs a bit with 1.25 spacers at full stuff but not enough for me to care yet.

What's the fun in that? Might as well find a way to fix it... in fact your statement makes me think the truck will be more capable without the sway bar.

I disconnect front on trails only. Front wheel spacers and no rub at all.

Thanks for the answer, I just got the lift on yesterday and got it aligned today. After the 30 or so miles I've driven it I'm thinking I need to put the sway bar back on lol. First vehicle I've lifted and taken the sway bar off that I actually regretted it, which to me is actually a good thing. I think the front is going to do more work than it used to. The bushings were toast anyways so I'll get the disconnects and bushings.

I drove few years without front sway bar. Installed with new poly bushings. Best modification I've done. Can't believe I lived that long without it.

I used these spacers when i had my 285 MTs on stock 5stars. Get these if you dont want to spend 100+ on spidertraxx. They gave just the right amount of spacing between the upper arm and tire tread.
