It's a 96

When i push the lock/unlock button on my key fob the locks work fine. The problem I'm having is the beeps associated with the action. Occasionally it will beep 2 times for unlocked and 1 time for locked. But the majority of the time it doesn't. I really enjoy those beeps lol. How do I fix it so it always beeps with the lock or unlock??

It's the factory alarm

Thanks!

Is there any way to change the volume of alarm beeps, I would like them to be louder

I guess it depends on which 4Runner you have (year/model).
The volume of the Security Horn is something that the dealer can do for you via Custom Settings for $75?. Or, if you want to get the OBD Connector and the TechStream Software, you can do it yourself. I found the connector and software on Ebay for less than $30 shipped. You will need to be computer savy i.e. if using W7 will need to run it in "XP Mode" (Pro or Ultimate required)...if already have a laptop with XP, you are good to go.
You can then play with all kinds of stuff, for instance the nagging seat belt warning when moving, timing of interior lights, window control via key fob, etc.

Good luck with that. If you have any issues with the TechStream, there are some helpful threads in the 5th Gen postings.

Edit:
I see that you are posting about a '96 model (Gen 3). I used to have a '97 but don't recall a "factory alarm" being available for it. I could very well be wrong about that. And, I do not know wether the TechStream Software was around then. guess I'll have to do some searching in the Gen 3 postings.
