Stock Radio/cd player will not play

In my stock 96 4Runner, my stock radio is constantly skipping (as in while I drive I can listen to music but if I hit a bump the sound cuts out!). Also my antenna will not go up when I turn my car on, all I hear is the antenna's motor running, trying to push the antenna up. So if anyone has some light to shed on my issue please let me know, because I have put countless hours into trying to figure this out and im about to explode due to frustration!

Well, the stock cd players in 4runners suck. Buy a new deck.

Another extremely common issue is the antenna. Search "taco whip mod".

Problems solved.

Sounds like the player needs a good cleaning. (Do it your self cleaners from wal mart, Kmart, target, best buy, ect.. Don't cut it!) unit would need to be pulled and sent to repair shop for tear down and cleaning. Not always the cheapest or easiest way to go. Best bet is to upgrade to a new unit with more features like aux/USB input, Bluetooth, satellite radio, mobile video, or even navigation.

As for the antenna, the mast has broken internally and is a very common problem with power antennas. Best bet there is the Tacoma whip mod as suggested above. It eliminates the power antenna completely.

this weekend I'm going to replace my factory double DIN radio/CD/tape player with an aftermarket Alpine head unit; would you be interested in the oem stock unit?

get a scion head unit. alot of guys here have them.

I have fixed my cassette player but my CD player has gone to shit.
