Stock radio replacement - Everything fits except this one thing.

Hi guys,

Back again. So I successfully installed new front speaker's, tweeters and head unit. Speakers were a breeze. But I had one problem with the head unit.

When I unplugged the stock radio, there was a power cable, the harness plug and one other small silver plug. It was plugged in directly next too the power cable.

On my new head unit, there is no socket this fits into properly. On the new head unit it almost fits into the socket next to the writing "fuse 10a" but it's way too loose and drops out. I hooked everything else up, and it's working just fine. Anyone know what the plug is? Where does it go? Should I be worried?

That's an extra antenna cable. There's an extra antenna in the a-pillar that works if the main antenna is down/broken.
Nothing to worry about. Not really necessary unless you custom wire a toggle switch for the power antenna.

No problam. Glad you got it all installed! Be careful with that plastic radio dash bezel if you ever need to work on the radio again. For some reason that plastic is extremely thin/brittle compared to the rest of the interior. It shatters pretty easily, especially with continued removal/installation. Ask me how I know.

and part # 40-uv43 from metra antenna works has a male to female antenna adaptor cable to combine the 2 antennas

anyone know which wires are need for a switch for the power antenna

That's an extra antenna cable. There's an extra antenna in the a-pillar that works if the main antenna is down/broken.

"Splice the switch into the antenna wire which I believe is black/red on the 96-99 and black/white on the 00-02 (need to double check that). If an aftermarket radio, the wire will be blue or blue white depending on the radio and kit. (some radios combine amp turn on with power antenna)

This switch is a flawless fit for a knockout to the left of the steering wheel
Scion OEM Style Rocker Switch I do feel it is overpriced but I never searched for a cheaper direct fit. They also have a lighted one as well."

Yep. You can get the lighted version on Amazon for $7.87 with Prime shipping. Same exact GSW-45 Gardner-Bender switch. That site sells it for $12.99.

I can conform black/white antenna trigger on '01-'02.

Sorry for the slow reply guys. Basically I went on to Crutchfield, looked at what was in stock with the highest number of good reviews and in my budget.

Head unit.

Also got a wiring harness with all this. The speakers are punchy with a tight bass, could do with a sub for real low end stuff, but they sound great. The tweeters came with 2 mounting options, I couldn't get either to fit in the tweeter housing so I improvised, got them in there.

The head unit was a breeze to install, had a moment of dispair, thought the harness was wrong, but then realised I needed to unplug the sockets from the bottom of the stock amp. Had to remove the extra face trims to get it to fit with the dash. Bluetooth works brilliantly, plenty of power for the new speakers to go way louder than I would ever listen.

I've never installed a car stereo before this and I found it all very easy. Hope this helps.

Crutchfield is awesome. I have a JVC head unit from them I installed a few years ago. Just got an entire set of Polk audio tweets and fronts, JBL rears and a 4 channel amp to go with it. Going to be installing sometime soon. This stuff is much easier than when I was younger -
