stock roof rails weight limit.

If I keep the stock roof rails, what cross bars I choose do not matter, correct? Looks like all cross bars are limited in how much weight they can support by the roof rails? Wanted to buy a basket to throw some extra stuff, but sounds like I'm severely limited in weight if I keep stock rails, which I will be doing. Any input appreciated.

Also, anyone know if the reach hatch can be adjusted? Other brands had a simple rubber piece that you turned for inward or outward grab. Thank you!

If I remember correctly, the owners manual states 120lbs, but I have an older trail edition with the trail edition style rack.

Rear hatch is not adjustable, however, you could replace the pistons with some with less stroke, or, rig up a stop cable to your requirement.

Most that carry weight on the roof upgrade to something like a gobi rack, which are pretty slick. I wish I carried stuff on the roof so I could justify one, but I don't.

I'm not sure, but I believe the Gobi actually fastens to the locations AFTER you remove the factory rails. Gobi load limits are listed on their sites depending on the rack you choose. Also, the mounting instructions are on their site.

You may find some good info if you search this T4R site for gobi rack. I see a lot of posts and a ton of members have racks.

stock rails

I was in the same boat with wanting to keep the stock rails but also carry stuff on the roof. I ended up putting 4 cross bars on the stock set up and probably will put a 5th as soon as I find one. Not sure what the weight limit is but I carry kayaks and sailboats on the roof and I am definitely over 120lbs.
