Storing grease guns and dealing with them leaking..

I have several grease guns and the all leak so I ended up storing them in a bucket but what a mess..

Is there a better type of grease or grease gun that you can just store next to the tools that won't leak everywhere?

I don't even dream of that.
Nature of the beast. Just release any pressure before storing.
Whatever part of grease gun leaks, put it on top.

Well I feel stupid, that might be part of the problem. I forget to relieve the pressure on them when I store them.

I picked up one of those $40 Lincoln grease guns to see if it's any better..I'll report back.

And I just have a separate plastic tub where I store all my messy tools and lubricant/supplies - tranny/gear oil pump, bottles of gear and engine oil, power steering fluid, grease in cans, funnels, one small grease gun (because I'm a minimalist), oil drain catch basin, etc. NO RAGS OR ANYTHING That could cause spontaneous combustion.

After the grease in my grease gun melted, leaking all over the inside of my toolbox, I came up with a new storage plan. It is now inside a large ziplock bag in the vegetable crisper of my refrigerator. (clearly I'm not married)

Believe it or not grease does have a shelf life. You will notice that once its opened the oils drain out of the waxier stuff. Manufacturers say not to use it after 6 months or 12 months with lithium types. For this reason I use the little mini grease guns like this:

I use same because I'm a minimalist, and it minimizes mess. Just enough amount to do periodic lube jobs.

I wrap mine in a plastic bag. It's just a grease gun, after all.

I had a cheap auto-zone gun and mobil 1 synthetic grease and that thing leaked all over the place.
I switched to royal purple grease and a Lincoln Lubrication 1134 gun. Hasn't leaked on me in the 14 months I've owned it. I do store it in a 5 Gallon bucket just in case.

Release the pressure, store it in a bucket or I hang mine directly above the trash can so when it leaks it falls in the trash.
