Storing spare 33" tire inside of 4runner

I plan on storing a 33" spare tire inside of my 4runner instead of the roof because of the C.O.G. or a rear bumper tire holder because it is just way too expensive. My question has to do with the tire smell. What kind of bag should I get (and where can I get it) so I can put the spare tire in it and not have the whole 4runner smell like rubber?

I plan on building this sleeping platform:

I will place the spare tire on top of that box, kayaks will go on roof rack and bike on bike rack on rear hitch. So it is very important to me that there is no rubber smell in the vehicle. At night time I will put the spare tire in the front two seats or attach it to the roof and set up my inflatable mattress on the sleeping platform.

Also I have a follow up question. I am looking to buy another set of rims for my offroad tires and I'll probably get a set of craigslist. What other toyota truck/suv rims work on our 3rd gen 4runners? My tires are 285/75r16s. I found a set of Toyota Sequoia/Tundra 16" rims. Guy wants $250 for them. Would these work?

Also, what rim should I get for the spare tire? My spare rim is all rusted and looks like crap. For the spare, do I need it to be the exact same type as the other 4 tires or can it be any rim that's the same size.

I had mine inside for a while. I never noticed the smell. IF your spare is a brand new tire, then you will smell it.

As far as a spare, use a wire wheel on an angle grinder and clean the rust and shoot it with some paint. Also find a used tire, maybe a 255/85-16 which will take up less space and will be lighter (lighter to haul and move at night).

Ive been running with my spare in the cargo area now for about 6 years, and I dont care what others say, YOU WILL, smell the tire, but just for a day or two. just drive with the windows down, and the new tire smell WILL go away.
To be honest, I forgot my spare was back there untill I read this thread lol

Doesn't matter as long as the overall tire diameter is roughly the same. You could use a 255/85/16, 305/70/16, or even 285/65/17 or 33x10.5x15 if you wanted. As long as it's a 33" tire. But IMO, the best spare tire is a perfect matching spare so you can rotate it in with the rest of the tires and extend your tire life an extra year or two

Strictly speaking, the diameter doesn't even need to be the same if you're not using your locker, but I wouldn't recommend it.

for the spare rim, Id personally get another stock wheel, or what ever rims you are running now, Id just get another to match, check junk yards, they are a good source for stock wheels and can be had pretty cheap.

I found a good deal on a 305/70 r16 Goodyear wrangler tire. Since it's a 305, it means it's wide than a 285 right? But since it's a 70 it's smaller (not as tall) than the 285/75 I have? Is there really a huge difference in size when storing it as a backup tire?

I had a 33x12.5 Interco TruXus MT in the back of my old ZJ. It always smelled like a tire in there, even after 5 years, the smell never completely went away.

305 is usually slightly taller and wider than a 285 but some companies make tires larger then others even though they have the same size printed on the tire.
