Strange grinding sound after cv axle was replaced.

I had my CV axle replaced recently and I drove 4 hours back home. about 3/4 of the way there, while in traffic, I noticed a grinding noise coming from the front of my 4runner. It is an intermittent noise and comes and goes. It only does it after a few minutes of driving, never right when i start driving. Did the mechanic not grease something?
Doesn't sound like the brakes because it comes and goes and doesnt increase/decrease with speed.

I topped off the front diff with gear oil earlier and it made no difference. (Yet)
Anyone have an idea of how to fix this. If it continues I might drive off a bridge. I cant stand when my car makes noises that arent normal.

Oh sorry. Its a New Napa cv axle.

Anyone know if its a defective axle or is it a botched install?

Make sure the new CV was torqued down tightly enough (175 or 180ft/lbs I can't remember).

Can they be bad out of the box? Very much so.

Thank you. I'm gonna throw my old torn boot CV back in because it didnt make any sound (just replaced because it was bothering me) if the sound stops I'm gonna return the Napa axle and get another one. Or Im gonna switch the boots and then return it...

think thats a good idea?

Found out what the problem was.

With some kind people's help on here I found out the mechanic made a mistake and left the old dust cover on.
