Strange noise, help diagnose?

2019 4runner, less than 20,000 miles. Alright so here’s the details:

I had a Toytec suspension kit and BFG Ko2 285/70/17 tires installed on my truck the other day, and I noticed this strange sound after driving off. I would describe the sound as sounding somewhat like an airplane, or perhaps a humming sound. It only begins above roughly 25mph and you can also hear it when decelerating. No change in the noise when turning, and I highly doubt the wheel bearings are an issue whatsoever. So this leads me to believe it’s just tire noise.

Has anyone ever experienced anything similar? Is this normal tire noise or perhaps a balancing issue? Any other ideas?

If it is constant after 25 it is probably the tires. I use to have KO2’s before and they made very little noise. I switched to Falken Wildpeaks AT3W’s and they have more of a constant light swoosh sound after 20mph plus.

Thanks! It’s hard for me to know for sure, as I have no frame of reference to confirm if it really is just normal tire noise.

One way to confirm it’s the tires is to drive on different surface types. Where I’m at, the intestate has stretches that are concrete and some that are asphalt. The noise from the tires is noticeably different on each surface.

Does the sound go away if you put it in 4WD while going straight at those speeds? if so, it's front diff needle bearings.

My '19 had that and it was the needle bearings of the front diff assembly and I also thought it was the tires for some time. Super common for the needle bearing to make noise, particularly after a lift. Some get noisy right away and others take a while.

ECGS sells a bushing that replaces the bearing. I had a local shop install it for a couple hundred bucks and I never have to worry about another needle bearing making noise.

I’ll have to give that a try! I put it in 4wd to check the CVs previously, but didn’t get it up to speed. I took it back to the shop today and the owner seems to think it just needs alignment, which sounds decently probable. I’m going to get the alignment done tomorrow and will report back.

Did you get the truck aligned after installing the lift? Perhaps the alignment is off, or just different than before and you're getting additional tire noise as a result.

I notice my tires are slightly louder right after I rotate them before they "wear" into their new place (100ish miles).

I actually did not, and that’s what the shop owner recommended today. I’ll be getting them aligned tomorrow morning and hopefully that fixes it! I sure hope it does, it’s hard to believe it’s really just tire noise, seeing as how it only starts above a certain speed, but we’ll see.
