Strange noise

Hey guys, I searched and I couldn't find anything.

I have a 96 4runner limited, its got 208k on the clock, I just got it about a month ago. Its completely stock save for pacer wheels and a stereo system.

So, I started noticing this "humming" noise coming from under the hood when the car is off. I popped the hood, and I traced it down to the vaccum thing that is on the drivers side in the engine bay. I disconnected the battery, and the noise continued.

Just wondering what might be causing this, if it is normal, etc.

Very normal sound, actually. Mine does it too. I don't know the fancy words to describe exactly what it is other than they fixed it in the following year (1997). They made a fix for it awhile back, but they don't make them anymore. I believe there's a few threads on here about it and how you can fix it as well.

Strange.

I mean, its not messing anything up, is it? Its just a noise?

I wouldn't mind fixing it but I won't run over myself to if its not going to break something or anything.

I tried searching on the same word first, haha! And I agree, it is really annoying, but eventually you get used to it.
