Strange Warning on GPS Display

I have 2011 LE which has never given me any problems and always maintained per Toyota recommendations.

Today I noticed a message on my GPS display when I initially start the engine. It says: "Engine Oil, Contact Dealer for Maintenance". The oil level looks OK and the oil warning light is off.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this message? I just noticed it today and have a 450 mile journey tomorrow. I don't want to drive all the way back home if this is something potentially dangerous.

I know in my '15 model TE you can set user alarms for all sorts of maintenance items (including oil change). Could be that it was set up by dealer previously for you or by yourself somehow and beeping now as a reminder.. Just my thoughts

Dig through the settings menus and you should find the Maintenance tab

I have owned this 4 runner since it was brand new and have never seen this message. I already have 80,000 miles and this is the first hiccup I have encountered.

Someone may have turned on the maintenance feature by accident.

Go into your main menu and/or flip through the settings; you'll probably find a "Maintenance" folder/app that you can customize.

I've never had any maintainence reminders come through my GPS before. It could be that it is some kind of 80,000 mile service reminder (I've got 79,300 now). i had transfer case fluid changed at the dealer a while back and I suppose it's possible that they activated a maintainence reminder.

I'm going to call the dealer in the morning to find out if it is anything serious. I will also take it to an Oil Change shop in the morning to evaluate for any obvious problems before I depart on a 450 mile trip home.

I'll post what I find out from the dealer.

Or maybe the dealer set it the last time you had it in. Just go into the menu and clear it. Calling the dealer won't yield a much different answer. It just designed to help you not forget. It is not a 'SMART' sensor of any kind that can detect problems.

Thanks for the info. I will just clear it. I wanted to make sure that it wasn't connected to any kind of sensor. I'm currently in the mountains in Georgia and went through some rough trails today. Nothing too bad but the skid plate took a good scrape. It was shortly after that when I noticed the "Engine Oil, Contact Dealer for Maintenance". Likely it is just a coincidence but I wanted to make sure before driving long trip back home.

I've never had anything done at the dealer with the exception of the changing of transfer case fluid since my Oil Change shop said it was Toyota specific product. I bet when I took it to them they programed my GPS to give me the message. I'll still call them tomorrow to confirm.

Damn I tbought it was going to be some cryptic message. Or maybe your 4runner warning you not to eat at the taco stand today.:toilet:
