Stripped Bumper/ Frame Bolt

So I got annoyed with the movement in my ARB and removed it so I could fix it. As I was tightening the driver side bolt closest to the firewall (usually where a tow hook/loop lives) it just kept turning. I pulled it out to find this....

So I am wondering if drilling up through the frame and running a longer bolt and nut would be better than drilling and chasing new threads into the original.

Have you tried a bolt that has all its threads? Have not see one that looks like that before with the depressions.

Yes, I keep/ horde Toyota hardware. I had a bolt with the same fine threads and it went in and turned for days. I believe this is an M12x12.5x35 and would have to be tapped to a M14x1.5....... tapping may be easier than through drilling and bolting.

Yep your frame threads are shot and the bolt showed the corrosion. You should have thread left at the start. I would just up it a size maybe two depending on how it felt cutting. The tap will easily cut nice new threads perfectly straight. There is plenty of material to cut new thread. If that doesn't work then drill all the way.

I'm pretty sure Toyota simply welded a nut inside the frame. And looks like that stripped out. Try tapping it to a little bigger size. Or is there a opening any where so you can like weld a new nut of use the same style as the rear hitch uses ?
