Strong fuel smell from gas tank area?

Ok, once again, I did try to use the search function, but either I am using it wrong or its just not working for me.

Anyways, the past few weeks ive noticed a strong fuel smell coming from my runner. At first I thought leaky injectors, but ive pretty much ruled that out. It mainly does it when I come to a stop, or turn left or right. NO leaks anywhere, fuel mileage is same as always, but I smell it strong. I havent dropped the tank down yet, but I was under it Saturday to drop down my tank skid to fix the damage my u-joint did to it, and it was really distinct under there and is definitely where the smell is coming from. I havent seen the top of one of these tanks yet, but is there be some sort of a vent tube or something that may have come disconnected?

Any help is greatly appreciated. If this has already been posted, I apologize. Google search brought up a few threads, but nothing on my issue.

I have a tank already dropped down. I can take a pic so you can see what's up top. Also there is a diagram in the online fsm. One of the links in my sig line will take you there.

Sounds like you evaporator canister is bad. Pretty common on these 3rd gens. Mine smells that way all summer. But only on the out side, unless my air blower is not on recalculate and Im at a stand still.

I appreciate it man. Dont worry about taking a pic though. I pulled the cover from under the back seat and can pretty much see everything. Nothing leaking though?

Yeah, if I have the windows up, I dont smell anything, but as soon as I roll them down and come to a stop, I can smell it strong!
