Struggling with the size of the 4runner

Hell, I came from a beast Titan Crewcab 4x4 and still managed to drive my month old 4Runner right into my workbench mounted vice.

F-bombs abounded.:wtf:

It's just the way of things.

If it makes you feel better, I had had the 4Runner for a whole 2 weeks before I hopped into it for work one Monday morning (Mondays...obviously bad things have to happen then) after being sick all weekend (again, another point towards Murphy...) and was exhuast (tick another point) and ran the back corner of the 4Runner into our family friend's Miata who had parked just a hair too far back before I had noticed.. cost me $350-ish with paint, new panel, ect at my cost... was so pissed at myself... and a new paintjob for the Miata...

Hey don't feel bad. Back when I had my last 4th gen I was was at a bar and had a sudden urge to take a dump. I ran to the bathroom and after assessing the situation I was in, I had three choices. Hold it for a mile or so back to the house, have a VERY messy time there, or hit the ladies room which I could already tell had occupants.

So I do the clenched cheek speed walk to the back lot where I had parked in the first corner spot. I get in and back out, but as I'm backing out I start turning immediately. Premature turning means I start walking it up the curb. Me being in the situation I was in, and being in a 4runner, I think screw the curb and I give it some gas. At this point I can feel that apparently I had hooked my front bumper on one of those bastard 3' yellow concrete filled steal poles. This rips about half of my bumper forward.

Fuuuuuuuq, was my first thought, but the reality of what would happen next if I stayed and looked at it turned Fuuuuuuuq to Fuuuuuuq IT! I hit the gas and bee-lined it to the house where I stormed in shaking and quaking my speed walking clenched self to the nearest can where I did "The Move". (where you pull pants and underwear as you are sitting and SHtting.) This is a highly synchronized move that if you do it correctly makes for no fuss no muss. Otherwise, well you get the picture. Lucky for me it was performed flawlessly.

I finish up and went out to assess my damage. Yup, my bumper was pretty much folded in the middle. The passenger side was attached, but the driver side was ripped forward. I fold it back in place, zip tied the hell out of it, and proceeded to the bar to assess that situation. I get back there and pick up my broken bits of fog light and broken bracket bits and such and go back in to continue the night.

I thought about how lucky I was that a police officer didn't see me hauling ass from the bar with my plastic bumper panel pointing straight forward. I would have passed a sobriety test as I was only 3 sips into my first beer when the urge arose. But I probably would have opted to run to the can landing myself with fleeing charges. "Please sir, I'm about to Sht myself. Please follow, come in, and we can hash it out in a few minutes" probably doesn't fly too well.

I laughed but also feel sorry for OP. Probably not a time to be making jokes but thanks for trying to lighten the mood.

Honestly, I feel the 5th gen is a little too big, but I don't own one. I own a 4th gen sport. I've test drove 5 or 6 5th gens though so that's what I'm basing my experience on.

With that said, why are the 4runners continuing to grow in size? At this rate they're going to be no different than a sequoia except with a V6.

Having had 2 4rth gens and 2 5th gens, honestly, it really isn't that much bigger. While the body is more boxy and less form fitted, it is really things like the raised windsheild angle that makes it feel so much more roomy.

Oooof.....thumper dumpers are nothing to "mess" around with but if those were my 3 options at the time, pass the TP Jennifer cause sheet got real next to you girl......

I think it's a visibility thing. Our garage shares a Tundra and 4Runner without much room left. We have to fold the 4Runner's mirrors in to get it in the garage. So far we have not had any accidents. I have noticed that forward edge visibility in the 4Runner with the bug shield is not as good as the Tundra. We use landmarks in the garage to get both vehicles in the same place each time. My wife drives the 4Runner most of the time and even being quite a bit shorter than I am - she has no problems.

Years ago when I was a teenage driver, I backed my Dad's Fairlane into a 55 gallon drum where I worked. The drum was there protecting a big sign post and it did its job. It collapsed in the middle with the top edge denting in the trunk lid.

I told my Dad and it was no big deal - dodged a bullet on that one!

If I'm following this right, you guys are saying that running into things is a bad thing? Hmm. Interesting concept. :sleepy:

Like seriously, they were waiting outside the door to get in. Besides, I was close to tapping one of the waitresses and I didn't want to jeopardize all the work i had put in by being that guy. Well until I became that other guy at least.

I don't know what the heck has happened, lack of concentration, or just losing my mind but I have smacked up my new 4 Runner twice in the last 3 weeks.

First I clip the front backing out of the garage, today I tattoo the back on the side of a concrete pole in the parking deck at work...
