Stuck bolt-need help!

Hi, I need to remove 4 bolts to install my Jaos skid plate, but one of them got stuck(probably from the impact of off roading), I have tried BP Blaster, WD-40 but no luck.

Have you tried using a (propane) torch on it yet? The idea is to heat up the setting where the bolt is contained (and not the bolt) so the bolt cools faster than the setting (ie the setting is expanded) so the bolt can be removed.

Heat with a propane torch. Then spray with non-flam liquid wrench. Repeat a few times.


You can also try a breaker bar or impact wrench. But if you break off the bolt, you have more problems.

I'll agree with using heat to get this bolt out. In my experience if I couldn't get it out with Liquid Wrench then the propane torch came out and always did the trick.

I have a set of the Craftsman Bolt Out set, and it works wonders. Its a tool that every mechanic should own. Stripped bolts are a thing of the past, the more torque you apply to the bolt, the more it bites and grabs to remove the failed bolt. I had a bolt on the back of the engine block of my old car that was stripped, it w as a header bolt, tried every method under the sun and no luck. Got the tool, and in about 3 minmutes i had the bolt off and thrown across the garage, lol.

you did not say that the head was stripped right?

Did you try a breaker bar?

I have one that I have know idea what it went too but it slips over the handle of my socket wrench and will work everytime.

The bolt head appears to be slightly stripped. "Craftsman Bolt-Out" will get it out in no time, and it's a much have tool for any DIY mechanics. I was lucky to get a set from Sears last year for $10 Bucks. Good luck

If the bolt isn't too bad and you can use a breaker bar, try putting a cheater bar/pipe on the end of it for more leverage. Get some kind of heavy pipe and slip it on the end of the breaker bar. That helped me when I had to pull of a crank pulley that was stuck.

Have you tried a pnuematic wrench? It should take most bolts off pretty easily. As an example; I had no problem with the exhaust bolts with pnuematics where other had major hangups as reported on T4R.

You need to get some WD or screw loose on the treaded part of the bolt. Try to stick your arm in from the side and spray. Let it soak in and then try to get a Craftsman Bolt Out socket and impact gun/breaker bar on it. If all else fails you could grind off the head and grab the stub with vise grips or grind flush and drill out the bold and maybe chase the treads. The final solution would be to drill out a bigger hole and put a bigger nut/bolt.
