studs too short for 1.25" spacers..?

So i was told that 1" spacers wouldnt extend beyond the studs.. so i picked up 1.25" spacers, i installed them and the nuts only thread on about halfway, they are torqued to spec but ya.. the studs do not extend beyond the nut, thoughts? it looks like i can fit 1" spacers on there.

yes the 1" spacer will fit.

a lot of guys replace the studs with longer studs and that is why they say the 1" spacer will not work, is because the new longer studs are more than 1"... but you can always cut down the stud to be 1" and then you will get full bite on the spacer lugs... this is how im going to go if i have to get spacers.

hmm I wonder if someone shaved yours down previously? Measure the length of the stud and let's compare to people on here.

Also maybe the studs are threaded further in?

What would cause someone to want to install longer lug nut studs on their truck?

So stock are only 1 inch? Gotta measure mine!

no stock are less than one 1". some wheels need longer studs and or some people want to run wheel spacers and so they will put longer studs in so they can run those spacers and get a full bite on the stud with the spacer lug nut. look at the picture above and you will see that the lugs holding the spacer to the hub and stock studs dose not get a full bite, it is only about half way threaded on. but thats all you can get with the stock studs, and thats not very safe if you ask me, and a big "no go" in competitions or with any kind of safety checks for events.

i had spacers before, you need to look up "acorn" style lug nuts. they are grooved inward to have more thread on the lugs. the spacers with regular style lug nuts dont make it in all the way.
im sure you can figure it out when you search acorn style lug nuts on the spidertrax i believe they are called acorn style they have a inner groove that goes more into the spacer.. :)

So I guess the only question I have then, is does hub centric make a difference? If so, how? The ones the OP posted aren't hub centric. Not sure what the difference is.

hub centric utilizes the hub to center the wheel or the spacer non hub centric relies on the actual machining more and the lugs locking the spacer or wheel into its position to achieve this. this has been an issue in the past, but now that most everything is made with computer added CNC machines there is really no need to true hub centric, as the lugs holding the weight and centering the wheel or spacer will be more than enough.

And looks like this. (notice the center flange that the wheel centers on)

pick up the ET lug nuts and you're good to go
even with the ET lugs my studs don't reach the end of the nut but the
extra thread more than makes up for it.
they've been on for a couple years, off road a lot and have had zero issues

thanks for all the awesome info guys, for some reason i wasnt getting the notifications. Ive looked at et lugs and i think ill still just switch to 1", no need for the extra quarter inch for me.

The studs dont look shaved at all but for reference sake ill take measurements tomorrow for everyone :)

okay so i realized downgrading to 1" spacer makes no difference.. the cone shaped mounting area drilled into the spacer is the same distance from my hub so the studs dont have any extra thread exposed.

i looked at getting longer studs and cutting them but have run around to every auto parts store and cant get a hold of ANY that will fit!

I am going to get the et nuts, but am wondering do any of you guys use closed nuts like lug nuts or open ended? they would need to be no longer than 1.25" overall or else theyll extend beyond my wheel spacer. most of the ones i have seen also go a little too deep so they would be pushing the spacer off by a few mm so it wouldnt be sitting flush.. i could aways chop off a few mm's if need be i suppose.. anyone have links to products they used? thanks!

no it does make a difference. it pulls your wheels in 1/4" they are 1" vs 1.25" wheel spacers. the bigger the spacer the more wear and tear on things light steering and bearings its putting more of a load on the spindles and studs. and your wheels turn in a further arc now. where as before with out spacers they just pivoted almost on an axis, now they will arc, and you will be stressing you PS system(pump, rack, and tie rods) every time you turn(more so when you turn the wheels while stopped. sure a 1/4" isnt a huge difference but why go more than you need. also with that extra 1/4" thats just that much more tire that will be outside the finders throwing up rocks, mud and road debris onto your paint and side of your rig. if you ever travel down a gravel road you will regret having wheel spacers that you dont need, as the gravel will chip up your paint.

yeup i agree but in my situation i need spacers and at the moment these guys NSOR.. dont want to take these spacers back (non hub centric 1.25" .. WHICH they told me get ha :) because i have installed them (which was when i found out the lugs didnt get enough bite). I dont want to have to spend another 125 bucks to get hub centric and throw these away.. but if i need to i will.

My question at the moment now is i put my 1/4" disk brake spacers on and my one control arm is maybe JUST touching against the tire. I can slide a piece of paper through the two tho.. can i drive it to work over the next few days without ruining my tire? thanks guys
