If you replace the IAC and the issue doesn't resolve immediately, then consider other problems.

Yes, I know this is old, but I just dealt with this.

My IAC replacement made the high idle go down immediately. Cleaning it earlier did help temporarily.

Things to also consider replacing if the IAC replacement does not work include:
- Thermostat
- Coolant Temperature Sensor
- Throttle adjustment
- Throttle Position Sensor

These all cost money, sometimes absurd amounts. So try one at a time.

There'as a dirty cable holding the throttle open

I'm a mountain bike guy, and all our gears are controlled by cables.
First thing to check when the gears dont shift right is the cables.

You would not believe how much force is needed to pull that cable.
It's sticking open from built up dust & friction.

Pull the throttle cable, fill the tube with teflon, work it back & forth until it's all wet with teflon along the cable length.

Then tell us what happened.
