Stupid Ignorant drivers....I must vent!!!!!!

OK guys, let me know if you can relate to my experiences with complete idiots on the road. Not unnecessarily in any order here are the things that really tick me off and are common occurances here in the ATL.

1. When people swerve completely into the other lane of oncoming traffic to avoid driving over a metal plate covering a road repair. I can understand doing this if you are driving a Ferrari with with extremely low profile tires and really expensive wheels, but on any regular car with average tires/wheels I think doing this is totally unnecessary......I mean come on....the plates are MAYBEE 1/2 inch thick. I have always driven right over these and never any tire or wheel damage. This goes for my 4Runner and every other car and suv I have owned.

2. People who will not pass a bicycle rider unless they can swerve completely into the other lane of oncoming traffic. Again this is completely unnecessary and totally holds traffic up. I say this as an avid cyclist myself. When riding, if I notice a car behind me who will not pass me I will motion him around me.....especially if he is holding up traffic.

3. Driving on an interstate you are cruising along and up ahead there is a cop with lights on and is writing someone else a ticket pulled over in the emergency lane and then everyone slows down.....and then speeds right back up after they pass the cop.........I don't get this. Do people actually think that cop is going to shoot right back into traffic, write another speeding ticket to ANOTHER driver and then go back to the first car he had originally pulled over to finish writing that ticket?????? I've never seen that happen.

4. No matter what the posted speed limit is and no matter how fast you are driving, if you are driving in the fast lane and someone pulls up behind you........move the F___K over!! I can't believe how many people don't know this. Complete stupidity. I thought EVERYONE knew this one!

5. You are driving down the interstate and it starts poring rain and people turn on their flashers.......I don't get it. I think it's a MUST to turn on your headlights during any rain whether light or heavy......but flashers on????

6. You are driving along a two lane road and someone pulls out in front of you and doesn't bother to speed up!!! I don't have a problem when someone pulls out in front of me, but if they do, I'm like.....get on the gas and move it!!!

Well I can help you on a couple;

#3 here in Florida, if you come across a cop writing a ticket on the side of the road, you MUST slow down at least 20mph below the speed limit unless you can put one lane of space between you and the officer. Something to do with morons killing officers. They love this one in Miami and set traps with dozens of law enforcement vehicles.

#4 So many people never think that the guy they just ran up on, might be waiting for the car in front of him to move out of the fast lane. This is my pet-peev, it's even better when someone tries to quickly pass on the right and cut me off just to get one car ahead, with me it will not happen, I add insult to injury by slowing down enough that the car behind me closes the gap and they find themselves futher back and trapped in the slow lane.

New Yorkers are by far the biggest offenders of on-road oblivion in New Jersey. I can't tell you how many times I finally get next to someone in the fast lane and stick my arm out the window signaling them to move over :flipoff: I think Americans should be taught rules of the road and general driving etiquette throughout all of high school. Of course I say this, yet I use my middle finger way too often. . .

ive never seen the flashers but one time in Seattle [of all places] it started to rain heavy so the idiots on the freeway stopped under an overpass..stopped on the freeway. so the rest of us behind them were getting pelted w. the rain cause these jacka$$es decided their car was too precious to get wet?

i hate when i see a tiny girl driving a big ol suburban. she cant even see over the wheel yet shes in charge of this massive vehicle. people with a cigarette in one hand and a phone in the other [also people who throw their butts out of the window] people who dont get over.... remember...keep right except to pass..

i have many peeves of driving/parking. there is no common sense or courtesy when on the road which is why im a supporter of stricter laws and tests to get your DL. until that happens though ill just have to deal with these drivers and be defensive

i will say though the other day i was shocked, i was following a little honda civic up the road and the person drove great. and i finally caught up to it at a light and it was a girl? not to stereo type or be sexist but i was pleasantly surprised. now if she was just a hot girl that would have made it even better :cheers:

The thing that bugs me the most is when people floor it to get in front of you, then they slam on the brakes to turn right.

You should see Blair(BlairB) when we are in the carpool lane with someone going about 60mph in front of us.

YES, yes it does, to be honest, even a state trooper moved over, lol, he was doing 60 in a 65, I did pass him, excepting him to pull me over, I passed him doing like 67-68 as I passed him, he just smile.

thats how it is on that damn dam road. i take that every morning and once every few days i get one person doing 30 in a 40. and not consistent w. their speed either....up to 40 down to 25 up to 30 down to 25 up to 40....if you dont have a steady foot hit the cruise.

1. Slower traffic refusing to move to the right (a law here, but never enforced at all). That is probably the most egregious offense of all. Lead, follow or get the $#@* out of the way. If you are being passed on the right - regardless of your speed - then you are in the wrong lane.

Slower Traffic Keep Right is not just a good idea, but should be the law of the land. Remember.....courtesy is contageous! (BTW, I mean move to the RIGHT LANE; not just the center lane. Since we commercial trucks are often forbidden to use the 'hammer' lane on many roads, the center lane is in fact our 'left' lane much of the time.) Unless you are overtaking another vehicle or there is an entrance ramp for merging traffic, you should be in the RIGHT HAND LANE. Not just the right thing to do, but it makes for smoother, safer, swifter and more efficient highway travel; not to mention reduced stress and less 'road rage' in your fellow drivers.


2. Idiots who don't use directional signals when turning or changing lanes. This is especially perilous on I-95 and other such multi-lane highways. God put that little lever on your steering column for perfectly good reason!

3. I drive large trucks (including 18-wheelers) for a living and the reason it sometimes takes ten miles for one truck to pass another is because of those darn 'speed governors' that are on so many trucks nowadays. Swift trucks are limited to 66 or 67 and JB Hunt & Schneider can push 68 or 69; thus the delay.

4. When you want to exit at the next ramp, please fall in behind me and get off the highway safely. Don't pass me at 85 when I may be going 70+, only to swerve in front of me & slam on your brakes (just to jump off at the nearest Wal-Mart). Not a good idea!

5. If you ride a "crotch rocket" bike, it is not wise to drive between my trailer and the trailer of a Swift or JB Hunt truck that I may be passing. Those dotted white lines are not your 'lane' to use, and your family will have a closed-casket funeral for you if your bike happens to get sucked under either of our trucks. Are you an organ donor?

6. When it rains, you are supposed to burn your headlights. Heck, even your parking lights are better than nothing. During broad daylight, it is still difficult to see you in my "blind spot" through all of that mist coming off the road. Send up a signal, and I'll throw you a line (apologies to Billy Joel). I want to know if you are there in case I have to make some kind of evasive maneuver or to keep my "escape zone" from the other dolts out there besides you.

Great responses guys! Regarding slowing down when a cop has someone else pulled over, yes it is the law here in GA too (as in FL) that you must either slow down IF you are in the far right lane when passing the cop OR just move over at least one lane to the left and keep your speed as is.

So many times a cop has someone pulled over it's like a sea of brakelights in every lane and I'm like people!!! WTF?? GO!!

As another poster put it.....Lead, follow, or get the f*** out of the way! I believe this is a quote from Atlanta's Ted Turner referring to yacht racing in The America's Cup. What a GREAT guy Ted is!! A little more "off topic" here but hey this is the "Off Topic" thread after all and I am the OP, but I must say I think Ted Turner is a helluv a guy and a fantastic leader! Just think if he listened to all the naysayers 30 years ago who said that 24hr. news on cable TV wouldn't work!!! Ever heard of CNN??????? My favorite trait about Ted Turner is he is a true leader and if you have ever seen any interviews with him you know he speaks his mind and if you don't agree with him he doesn't give a ......well you know the rest of that one! Political correctness is so lame!!! Ted is so refreshing!!!!:cheers:

In New Jersey, they just passed a move over law.

I don't like when somebody who is driving under speed limit speeds up to prevent you from passing them. If you want to drive slower than the speed limit, it is alright just let me pass you!

The classic Orlando driving move is the left lane exit. You know the one - the Iowa minivan (not picking on Iowa, pick anywhere, even Florida) who is going about 65 in the left lane (speed limit is 70) and they decide that they really do need to get off on the next exit a quarter mile up. The problem? It isn't a left exit. So they decide the first time they're just coming over, it doesn't matter who is there. From the center lane, they "merge" into the right lane by slowing down to about 40 because they see a break 15 cars back. By then, it's too late to make the exit, so they pull onto the shoulder... and on come the reverse lights. Suddenly they find the accelerator because they're going 50 in reverse on the shoulder of the highway. Get back to the sign, possibly look to see if it's clear to go, but just go anyway.

You might be thinking that no one would ever do that. I invite you to drive down I-4 at about 5:30 and watch the madness unfold. :naughty:

two words: mazda drivers.

I HATE mazdas... you name it, they've done it infront of me and/or next to me. I've almost had a few accidents because a mazda decided it would be a good idea to change lanes without looking or pull into a parking spot while I'm parked in it. Last time I checked, my truck isn't invisible. I cannot stand when someone (usually a mazda) is going 10 or more under... for no reason. You know you're doing something wrong when a 4runner is passing you. Every single time a car has pissed me off, it's been a mazda.
Anyone else feel the same?

Touristas, that's what drives us nuts down here, on the Overseas Highway you can cruise at 65mph on some bridges, 10 over the speed limit without cops bothering you, as soon as you come to the high points, you see the cameras pop out of sunroofs, windows, or someone stand up in a rental convertable, you better be ready to hit the brakes, because they're going to slow to 20 mph or less to get as many pics in and video shot as they can before the horns start sounding.

I hate the trucks on the highway...they just think they can move onto the lanes whenever they want and you better be prepared to move over or slow down to let them pass if you dont want to be smashed. But the worst its when two of them take over both lanes at the speed limit until one of them decide to acelerate and move onto the right.Or when one of thos e huge trucks are coming from and exit onto the highway and the rest of the cars on your left don't move over to let you get away from that beast coming out....I hate that....!
