has anyone ever installed a way of opening the rear hatch from the inside? is there already a way and i'm just that stupid? i sleep in the back of my truck and this would be kind of cool......

I would just use the window down button on my keys and crawl out through there. Granted you have to have your keys.

Dude how short are that you sleep in the back with the seats up , that's not even Asian short , that's like pygmy short, lol
Granted that's the only means of getting out as it is , so that's what i do.....how do you manage to tuck and roll out the hatch window in the am is beyond me lol no way am i that limber in the morning

The hard part with installing a handle on the inside would be getting around the window assembly with a actuator rod or linkage.
Maybe you could find some space for a electric solenoid and have a push button instead of a handle.
If its warm enough I use my remote to get the rear window down then reach for the factory handle.

I didn't say I did, lol. I don't sleep back there because I dont go camping a lot. Wish I could more.

I did. But only because the outside handle broke off and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. So I rerouted the cable, I just roll down the window reach in and pull a little cable. Would also work from the inside obviously. I'll post a couple pics when I get to my comp.

here is what i did.
once you remove the plastic and the black metal plate covering your back hatch, youll find this. the mechanish that releases the latch at the bottom of the gate. the steel bar at the bottom left is what moves when you pull on the handle from the outside. my handle was missing and this wasnt working so i bypassed it and figured out a different way to open it. it essentially pulled up on the cable(not pictured) that attaches to the gold/brass colored hook thing directly above the wire. i simply unhooked that cable and rerouted it.

here is the other end of the cable, where it is connected to the latch at the bottom center of the tailgate.

then i directed over to here and jbwelded it in place so that it didnt interfere with the rear window. its just a little right of center. pretty much even with the key lock on the outside.

i just took the other end(the one you disconnected) and jbwelded it in place. obviously make sure that you dont epoxy the cable, so that you can still pull on it.

i did this because my rear hatch handle was missing and i flet as if the whole assembly, shown in the first picture wasnt working properly, so to fix it back to oem was gonna be a little out of my price range. so i went this route. if you or anyone else does this please know that your handle on the outside wont work after.
you can still open from the outside though. you just put your key in, roll down the window, pull the cable and pull open the hatch. as a friend of mine says, good enough for the girls i date. :tongue:
