Sub, how big can you go?

The grille to my factory sub (JBL system) is broken anyway and I was thinking about putting an aftermarket sub and grille in the factory location. How big is the factory and how big can I go? Almost forgot, 4th Gen 2005.

It's an 8-inch sub and you can only fit another 8-inch in the slot. I actually just got a 12" kicker separately put in my 2004 limted, if you want to get a bigger sub, then you should just mount it in separately. The 8-inches aren't really worth it.

I disagree with last poster. You can do like I did and go with JL audio sub and run a dedicated JL amp and leave it under the passenger seat. Does it piss people off at red lights? No. But it is an amazing difference and you do not lose any cargo space. Note: do your research. The sub enclosure is shallow and will not accept most subs. The JL is shallow and will fit.
