Subwoofer in back panel

That area is really small as far as air space is concerned. I wouldn't put more than a 10" sub in there and even then it might not be good. I would be curious as to what the air space is.

i am thinking about it, i have an old pair of 8" subs that are laying around. I really don't want to take up any of the hauling room w/ subs, but would like some added bass. If you are going to do it, fiberglass is about the only way to go, but i haven't had time to even pull the panel yet to see what it looks like. If you pull out that rear interior part, post a pic!

I have a setup in my back panel like you're describing, with a 10" JL audio 10w3. I had it custom built by a shop when I got the rest of my setup.

The shady folks at the shop originally told me that they would keep the compartment intact and build a fiberglass enclosure that would fit inside without having to cut it, and that it would sit flush with the rest of the panel. Instead, they ended up cutting out the compartment without consulting me about it first, and gave me the wood enclosure that you see in the picture below. If I would have known they were going to cut out the compartment, I would have told them instead to keep it intact, and just extend the box out an extra few inches and have it rest on the floor of the trunk area. Needless to say, I was pissed... but it sounds great, and it gives me more than enough bass for the kind of music I listen to.

So you've got a few different options to choose from .

1) Cut out the compartment and go with a setup like mine.

2) Get a shallow mount sub and possibly be able to fit it in the compartment with a fiberglass enclosure.

3) Go with a JL audio stealth box or build something similar. They look nice, and from what I heard, they sound nice, but it'll run you about $600 and comes with a subwoofer (you can probably build something similar or have it custom built)

4) A company called Q-logic makes something similar to the JL stealthbox, but i heard it's not as good, quality-wise and doesn't sound as good. Costs about $200 for the enclosure only.

carpet, vinyl, or texture and paint it, probably would look somewhat factory. Now if you counter sink the sub, and do a grill cloth over it, then it would look like a factory option.

No prob .... hope you got some use out of the info...

it's carpeted now.... that's an old picture that was taken before the install was complete. They were out of brown carpet at the time and they had to reorder.

They sort of ghetto rigged it by drilling some long screws through the inside of the box before the sub was mounted onto the box. Probably not the best way they could have done it, but it's held in place for over 2 years and it sits pretty tightly without moving around at all.

Sub amp's under the driver seat, 4 channel under the passenger seat and a JL audio clean sweep under the backseat next to the jack.

The stock speakers are pretty bad in my opinion. They don't seem to have any midbass.

I can't turn my HU past 19 without them distorting. My subs on the other hand could go up even more. I should probably upgrade.

The fronts are 6 1/2" and the rears are about 4" I think, but I believe a 5 1/4" will fit.

yep....clemsonfan's right. 6 1/2 in the front and 5 1/4's will fit in the back with an adapter.

It's like a speaker ring type thing that uses the factory screw holes, but allows you to install a larger speaker.

If you tried to put the 5 1/4" directly in there, there would be nothing to screw into.
