the mileage i quoted above is for intra city driving, max speed 40miles per hr...less than 25miles commute per day...actually abt 10miles to n fro office.
last time i did a 220mile trip..i filled my tank and the needle was at the halfway mark at 190miles........though my trip meter normal settles around 320miles when i fill ip my tank at the gas station.hv changed my airfilter..next stop is changing out the 6 plugs.....considering if its worth doing the HCF mod delete, yet to see a solid confirmation of mpg gains from forum memebers.

I did the mod and got a roughly .5 mpg increase with my V8...... Not much but every little bit helps.....
Ethanol definitely hurts the MPG - Luckily i live near an area that there are marinas and boating which CAN NOT use ethanol so non is available - Check out link below for ethanol free gas stations near you.

am here in LA...and always gas Chevron...every one say its the best gas out here...wondering what u think...
Everything has ethanol around me. I think any gas without is better than the best with ethanol. Chevron is good gas. Each state is different with the ethanol addition. I'm in the Buffalo area and since it's cold during half the year they just keep the ethanol in it. I try to fill up at the stations on this list near me as much as possible.
Unfortunately in high demand area many of us are paying $5+/gal for ethanol free. I just filled the boat up today when we got back and it ran me $426 For the partial fillip. I will keep using regular shell 93 (with ethanol) in the 4Runner for $3.73/gal.

There may not be ethanol free in CA but here it's normally 10% ethanol but with boating and marine needs that cant have ethanol at all there are a few stations near marina's that don't have ethanol.
Marine fuel.
My MPG just jumped up to 18 (was 16.5) using the on board computer. I'm driving the exact same roads and speed. Summer gas?

changed my spark plugs and did a 250mile trip, my onboard computer showed 19.8avg mpg instead of the usual 13/14 it normally shows...bought the trcuk used at 113k , now at 120kmiles..so no idea when last the plugs were changed.
just observed my front passenger wheel hotter than the others.....seems i hv the infamous siezed caliper problem!!!....arrgh....thinking of buying new clipers and rotors and swapping out both front caliper/rotors...was having the steering shakes when braking at high speeds..so it appears my rotors are warped too

HCF removal helped mine quite a bit. it was so dirty i don't know how any air got to the engine. Also changed my plugs to NGK iridium and helped me by 3-4 MPG. Just a though
I don't think it's the battery. Battery is there to provide power to the car when engine is off for the lights and other electronic. I would say that your alternator is not providing enough power when engine is running, thus not giving enough spark for combustion.
I replaced my battery a year ago and I did not notice any mileage improvement. A few weeks ago, my dashboard battery light came up even when engine is running. To make it short, I ended up replacing my alternator and that fixed the battery light problem. I measured the voltage at idle with all the lights turned on, high beam, AC on high, and the reading was 13.5V+-. if all accessories are turned off, it reads about 13.85V at idle. I also notice my mpg has improved. So anyone with issues with mpg, you might want to check your alternator output. I hope this helps.

Hydrocarbon Filter..... It's in the top of your airbox over the filter.... Many threads talk about it and the potential benefits of removal....

Bringing this back from the dead. Here it is 18 months and 7000 miles later, my mpgs never changed. I'm still getting around 13.5mpg. I've started thinking since mine is a full time awd, that my center diff is acting up. I've checked all brakes, all spin freely. I've bought gas in 3 different states (Nevada, Cali, and Oregon). My on board computer says I'm getting 19.9mpg, but when hand calculated it's 13.3-13.8mpg. I did realize that I lost the mpg AFTER the gas peddle recall. When they did that, they also did a reflash. My shift points changed also. Anyone have any more ideas?
