Sudden influx of in-post links. VigLink

I have noticed lately that a lot of random words in my posts have become linked. Especially in the buyers guide and my build thread.

Words like radiator, fuel pump, tires, air filter, radar detector, spark plugs, timing belt, power steering, etc..

(I have not added links to any of these, its the site doing it)

When you mouse over the links, it says "Link Added by VigLink".

When I googled VigLink, it is a service that site owners can purchase to "Unlock the power of your site's links and earn extra money from your site automatically, transparently and honestly."



This is dumb, there have been more and more ads of different types popping up on this site for months now. It is starting to get really annoying. And this new one really takes the cake.


I have lots of links in my posts and I dont want people confusing my actually useful link with all this spam crap.

This is a program used by Board operators for the purpose of revenue enhancement. Be thankful they aren't using pop-up links (you know the ones that open a small window when you mouse over a word) like the facebook etc at the bottom of each post.

There are costs associated with running these boards, something I think most take for granted.

Well duh there are costs.. geez. The site has obviously been going to strong for years without them, so the only reason to add them is becuase they just want more profit.

Its just when you bring the ads into the middle of the freaking posts you've gone too far.

Litter the side of the page with ads, I dont care, just keep it out of my dang posts.

Rip, There's no need for attitude! Please!

I've been involved in several boards similar to this, though not automotive related, and can honestly say that the ads and links seen here are in no way generating a profit. In fact I can almost guarantee that the owner(s) are paying money out of pocket to keep this site going.

Sorry if I confused your frustration for attitude. I agree having threads linked via ad ware programs does suck but it don't suck as bad as if the thread went away along with the site due to lack of funds.

Not sure if either of the link options listed here will disable said links? anyone know?

Even if they do work (which I doubt), it will also cause any other links in the page to be broken. And like I said before, I have a TON of links in the buyers guide and my build that I cannot lose.. Unfortunately those good links are inter weaved with all of this spam crap.

Such as but not limited to.. OEM toyota , 4runner , sport editon , SR5 4x4 , 5W-30 , and pretty much every single part number you can think of. Such as 90915-YZZD1..
Check the buyers guide, these are ALL OVER THE PLACE!

Really? Are you THAT desperate for money?

I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but I don't see the site owner ever actually participating in threads. I don't think he even owns a 4Runner. He was a guy helping Greg run the board, and then Greg had to get out and sold it to him, and now we're left with a board owner who doesn't actually care about what happens around here as long as he's making money from ad impressions. It has to be making him money, or he would have dumped it a long time ago.

Admin, feel free to prove me wrong about any of that...

i dont see any links on this post but i do see them in certain post. your computer could be infected with some adware

They arent in that post previous post of mine, but they are all over the front page on the buyers guide. Admin must only use those ads on threads that get high traffic.
 
I know it's not a cheap fix BUT, what if we petition to give to a "Donating Member" fund, that way this stops from happening and we maintain our happy/loyal ship if you will, to the site which helps ourselves in the end.

It appears the the Ads are now only visable when in "guest mode".

when you log into an account they are not there! Thank you mods for this, Its a happy medium.
