Hi. I am new to this forum. Been reading and got tons of useful info. I plan to acquire either a 99-00 4x4 Limited with E-lock or a 2005 4x4 Sports Edition.
I went and check out the 99 tonight. It has 147K miles and wants $5K for it. It has a clean title. It's clean inside and out. Not immaculate but clean for a 99. The paint is still shiny. The front ball joints have torn rubber and will probably need to be replaced soon. The brake rotors are probably warped since it vibrates when braking from high speed. Everything seems to be in good working order. I am new to SUV and the ride seems a bit bumpy. Any bump in the road and the vehicle doesn't damp out as well as in a car. Is this normal or is this a sign of bad suspension. The front tires have some irregular wear. Other wise it's relatively new. The groves from inside to outside would have different heights. The inner and outer groves of the tires are shorter than the middle grove. Is this due to bad alignment? bad tires? bad tire balance? The one thing I notice immediately is the lack of power. I have to push the pedal way down to the floor to get pass 70 mph. Is this normal for a car of this age?
I have not test drive the 2005 but will do that tomorrow. I assume the 2005 4runner will perform similar to the 2005 Tacoma since they both share the same engine V6 engine. I drove the 05 tacoma 4x4 and it's powerful and the suspension is solid. The 2005 has 133K miles and is asking for $11K. Based on the pixs on craiglist it appears to be immaculate inside and out.
I am leaning toward the 2005 but haven't seen it in person and drive it, I'll wait until tomorrow when I go and check it out.
I plan to use the 4x4 4runner for light trail use only primarily on rough fire roads for hunting purposes only. This may change after I get the truck but for now it is to get to good hunting grounds. Is the e-locker critical light trail use? When do you actual use the e-lock?
I will probably get one of these two truck before the end of this week. Any recommendations and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
