Suggestion s on how to handle dealer oil change failure

Long story short...I am a diy kind of guy but had a voucher for a free oil change at the dealer. Figured it has been cold so I had them do it.

A week before I did transfer case and differential oil changes on my own so I have been on the lookout for any kind of leaks.

Yesterday I noticed oil spray under the cross member and some on the exhaust after wiping everything down I checked oil level and it was fine. I figured dealer spilled while draining oil or filling.

Today I saw the same oil spray underneath and figured I better take a closer look. The engine oil drain plug was loose (finger right) and obvious signs of leaking.

No lights ever came on and the oil level looks to be ok (in between the 2 dots).

I will let the dealer know it happened but since no oil pressure light came on I am thinking everything is OK. I am just going to ask them to clean the undercarriage and check for any trouble codes. Should I have them check anything else ?

Your a very lucky dude. Tighten it and live on. Accidents happen. I wouldnt bother going back. Maybe call the service writer and let him clue the mechanic to be careful.

Nothing to worry about as long as it did not get extremely low (which is sounds like it did not), the pan does not have oil pressure. Just the oil pickup.

They usually give oil changes to the newbs at the dealer. Can't really expect much out of them.

When I bought my truck a year ago the selling dealer did the same. I put 2000 miles on it in the first month and noticed serious oil consumption. I pulled the access panel off and found the same thing you did.

Snug with a new washer every time.
