suggestions...4Runner keeps shutting off...

hi! So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I was in traffic and went to accelerate when my car all of a sudden shut off (lights on dash all came on). When I went to try to start it again, it wouldn't even turn over (also, no clicking like it was trying to start). after it sat for a little while, it started but then shook a little and cut back off. the mechanic thought it might be electrical and having to do with the signal from the accelerator. After they worked on it, drove it home (about 20 minutes), was parked in a parking lot when I felt it stalling/shaking and then it cut off again. Would start back up, then do the same thing and shut off again. Any ideas?? Thanks!

could be fuel pump or even alternator issue. What was the code it threw?

Sounds to me like it'll be a mechanical problem though like it's not getting enough gas. Next time it happens, cycle the key to the on position for a few seconds a few times before restarting. This will run the fuel pump and if it's weak it my allow it to pressurize the system by doing this a few times.

What does it look like under the hood, is the connection to the battery iffy? I agree with galactic_04, is the CEL is comming on then if you know how to check the codes, then google the codes is throws and see what problems have been associated with those numbers.

cestwd what happened with your car?

Mine is in the shop for the same thing. It compeltely shut down when I went to accelerate. Mine turned right back on but the shaking is every once in a while. Today the shaking was worse and the check engine light flashed 5 times. A few months ago it was shaking and they said it was the connection with my battery. But happening again. hmm...
