Sulfur (aka. Rotten Egg) Smell on '03 4Runners

VIN out of TSB range?
Has anyone who has the sulfur problem AND has a VIN out of the range gotten any love from Toyota?
I have the ass stank when the windows are down, and after checking my VIN, i'm just barely out of the range.

I have an '04 with the same problem. I fell outside the tsb, but my dealer replaced my cat anyway. That didn't fix the problem. I'm pressing the dealership for a solution and the service manager is meeting with a Toyota rep tomorrow to discuss it. Has anyone tried to fix the problem themselves by replacing the cat with an aftermarket model? If the Toyota designed cat can't digest the sulfur surely a different (and better designed) model would. True, I would have to pay for it myself, but that may beat buying a new car.

I have an 03' V6 runner, I've had the rotten egg smell for a while now. It bothers me somtimes and others it doesn't. I've been all over town at every gas station trying every grade/brand of gas. I have found out that in my town using Shell, Ammaco, Chevron (87 octane) i can smash the gas pedal down and no smell. Citgo, Hess, Texaco, racetrack, have all given me that rotten egg smell. Although I have heard a lot that extracting the cat and replacing with a pipe and bypassing the o2 sensor will solve the problem. (more of a theory) haven't known anyone that has done it yet. I would do it in a heart beat.

TSB Done
I had my dealer do the TSB for the catalytic converter a few days ago. I have had my rer window down and have stepped on the gas with much reduced smell than before. I have been using the same gasoline (no effect with differrent octanes) and the smell is much less intense.
Still some sulphur smell but greatly reduced.

My 2004 T4R has the smell!
I thought it was something being put in the local manhole/sewer system. Nope, it occurs almost all the time with acceleration, worse w/ hard accel. I live in Colorado Springs, Co no reformulated gas here. I use super unleaded, 91 octane. I don't remember this smell when we first got the truck, but it has been very obvious now over the last 5000 miles, it has 15600.Thai said:

Below is a statement from the Toyota Website.
I would love to know what it means exactly. What are specified components? The statement is too vague for me to decipher anything from it. Many Oxygen sensors do last 80 k miles. Are they covered? I would assume the Cat is covered.

"Federal Emission Coverage: Components under the federal emission defect warranty are covered for 36 months/36,000 miles and specified major emission control components are covered for 8 years/80,000 miles. Specified major emission control components under emission performance warranty are also covered for 8 years/80,000 miles. In addition, emission performance warranty is applicable for 24 months/24,000 miles in states and local jurisdictions that require a periodic EPA-approved inspection and maintenance program."

Hey there. I know that dealer well. I like how one drives their vehicle indoors to get to the service department! I just put up with the smell. I also never drive with the liftgate window down. I would if I could. I use the two Mobil stations on Rt. 27 Kendall Park, because I live there. I have tried the BP station with no avail to solving the stench. The Dealer told me it was due to high sulfur contents in some gasoline

I mostly use the Raceway on Rte 1N by the Woodbridge Ave exit since this on my way to work.
As for the TSB, when I went to the dealer I told them about the TSB for the sulfur smell on the 2004 4Runner. They looked it up and preformed it no questions asked. I have not noticed the smell since.
