does the complete assembly need to come out or does the glass come off separately? if yes, how?

Glass can come out separately. Remove 2 plastic trim pieces on glass (interior side), and then there are 4X screws. See pics:

does the seal on the glass come off or is it part of the glass?

Is it glued in? Would you need to apply more glue when you reinstall?

The seal and the metal brackets the fasteners screw into are all glued. Not sure you can remove the seal without destroying it... If thats what you are after, you are probably better off just finding a complete glass unit with a good seal at a junkyard.

My issue is that when I got into my accident I had my sunroof open and glass and other debris got in there and I'm looking for an easy way to clean it.

It's honestly not that hard to remove the headliner and take the whole assembly out. I think I had mine out in an hour, with another set of hands at the end it would be even easier. Also, the edges are sharp... so wear gloves.

Totally worth doing though. It's not that hard, and you shouldn't have to break that seal then, or if you do, it's all apart and you can check it before putting it back up.
