sunroof help

hey all,
i have an 08 urban runner. im not much of a car person but yesterday was actually pretty warm so i opened my sunroof and it was great. it slid back and sounded normal. when i closed it, it also sounded normal, however when i tilt it up, it makes this weird stuttering noise, but it still opens fine. it also closes fine from the tilt position. granted since its been cold, i haven't opened my sunroof in about 4-6 months.

it sounds like some rubber is rubbing or something is getting caught i guess. its hard to explain. but i ran my finger around the whole sunroof and there aren't any foreign objects around there.

have any of u guys ran into this issue before?

any1 know a possible fix or any troubleshooting techniques?

just picked my 05 up today for sunroof problems. i had brought it in a month ago because mines got stuck in the open position. The dealer supposedly replaced the motor and cables. a month later it started making loud cracking noises while cycling through open/close/tilt positions. Got it back today after being at the dealers for 2 days and the invoice says "found cable teeth missing, found H track tabs broken, and motor binding. Replaced H track, motor, and cables." Glad I purchased the extended warraty because the bill came out to $1208.14 this time and over $1500 the first time. Service guy mentioned that something was eating up the cables. Mines started as a stuttering noise and progressively got worse so i recommend that you bring it in to get looked at. good luck.

ughh that sux so bad.

i have a 2008 urban runner and its not even 2 years old yet!

$1200-1500 OMG that is horrible. sigh i dont think i got the extended warranty :(

i thought i bought a 4runner to avoid stupid issues like this. i use to have a vw jetta which was plagued with wind issues.

you should be good cuz your warranty is still in affect. Just mentioned I was glad I purchased the extended warranty because my regular one would have ran out already as I have 65,000 miles on the ODO already.

sorry this is a stupid question but im not really a car person.

i bought my car on july 4th, 2008. what is the standard warranty and how long does it last?

how much is the extended warranty? and since im a car noob, can i purchase it now?

I'm not exactly sure, but i believe the standard is 5yrs./50000 mi. and extended warranty's vary and can be purchased anytime.

Was this your very first time buying a car? Where did you buy your car? Private party or dealership? Anywayz, the standard warranty is 36K miles or 3 years whichever comes first. How much depends which dealer is the cheapest. I don't think you can purchase it now. If you bought your car from the dealer, then your salesman forgot to tell and sell you this.

Mine was making that sound only on tilt open and close. I cleaned the seal and around the moonroof opening. Wiped down the seals with the 303 Aerospace and all was fine again.

This thread brings up an important question: Does anyone know if you can purchase these extended warranty policies after you already own your care. If so what are the limitations...they must be purchased before the manufacturer's warranty runs out?

Yup, you can purchase the extended warranty through TFS (Toyota Financial Services) at anytime as long as your vehicle is covered under the 3yr/36k bumper to bumper warranty.

this isn't my first time buying a car. i just seem to have a bad memory lol. i bought the car brand new at a toyota dealership. maybe i was overwhelmed with "omg i got a new 4runner" syndrome and forgot all the details hehe.
