Sunroof leaks

Just how much water is supposed to make its way between the seal on the glass, and the body? Because I got a fair bit coming through when I went into a car wash today (heard it drip and saw it coming through) . It seemed all of it drained out so it's not a drain tube issue, so I'm not sure if this is normal, or if I should try getting a new seal for the glass.

Any input is appreciated.

Good question. Mine does a little leaky leaky too. Not alot but some and it drains out like yours. I've noticed with mine that it doesn't seem to seal itself when I close it. I can still push it up like maybe a 32nd of an inch or so. It also rattles when shut and when I push it up the rattle stops. Is there an adjustment for that? If there is I may be able to stop both the rattle and the leak. And that could be your issue to? Just a thought ...

open it. then push the close button and hold it until its fully closed. it should fully close after doing that.

I've done that and it still doesn't quite close tightly but I'll keep working at it though like this and maybe eventually it'll close like it should.

I think you're right now that you mention it. My ex-wifes little Jeep Patriot does the same thing.

I don't think Toyota designed the sunroof to leak... rather they put in the drains in case the seal does fail (due to dryrot or shrinkage (wait for it.... TWSS) or debris) then they put in the drains to minimize damage. (as you eluded to, they're doing their job). I'd suggest getting the seal replaced if it still leaks after you clean and treat the rubber seal and clean the closing interface to ensure no debris (It is possible at least here in PA, if you shut the sunroof on a twig/branch the seal will be permanently deformed if left closed for a while (ask me how I know)... then it could begin to use the drains (ask me how I know).... have a real close look at the seal first. is it deformed? is it dryrotted?

I'm gonna have to give it a closer look later today. It appears to be in good condition, but it is 9 years old now.
