Sunroof misalignment?

I had a shop close my sunroof permanently when it stopped working properly a few years back - a shop that specialized in sunroofs. Now my sunroof has some "play" in it and rattles over bumps. If I push it it has play and can be moved up and down, causing the rattle. Any ideas for fixes to fully immobilize it? I'm driving 2000 miles on Friday and I will wind up going insane if I have to listen to this thing the whole way. I tried stuffing some thick rubber sheets in the corners which seemed to help, but is ugly and didn't fully alleviate the problem

my sunroof closed i can push up and itll rattle. But i keep the cover closed because i rarely use it. It only rattles when the cover is open otherwise its silent. Id put some foam isolation type pads on the rails and see how that works.

I have used plumbers putty in door and dash panels to get rid of rattles due to speakers/sound. If you know the junction that is rattling, roll up some plumbers putty into a long cylinder (do this for a while so it is soft) and place between the two surfaces. It doesn't smell, you can trim the excess off with a knife and it isn't permanent (easy to take off later). It's easy to add a little more if needed too.

This sounds like a good idea, I'm just not sure where to put it. I'll try and get a video later today.

About the only way you could mess up is if you pushed the putty into a gap and caused a water leak. :rain:

Same rattle here. I followed the TSB (minus the new parts) a couple nights ago and it is slightly better. I don't ever use it but I think the Mrs. uses it a lot. I've thought about stuffing some thick foam in between the shade and glass since I don't open that either. Not sure if I want to permanently close it at this time.

This also strikes a cord with me on new 4runners. I'm going to buy a new TE (I'll be keeping my SR5 too) in a few months. I want KDSS and softex but no sunroof. Apparently thats not possible. I wish we could pick individual options instead of being grouped.

So, an update to this, I followed the TSB (minus the new parts) and also added 1" pieces of 1/8" fuel line around the cables that are on the side of the sunroof track. I drove it around a bit this morning and the rattling is completely gone. Hopefully it doesn't come back. I'm the type of person that will pull over to adjust the shopping bags if there is a squeak or noise coming from them so that rattle was driving me nuckin' futs. I should have fixed it sooner.
