Sunvisor not folding up all the way.

My drivers side Sunvisor will not fold up all the way up. It seems to be getting worst . Does anybody else have this issue? Living in Sunny California I use it a lot , but it seems odd that it would start to wear out in 7 years.

There's two screws that hold it up. Maybe they're loose. :confused:
I always have my secondary (behind) sunvisor out to cut some sunrise glare. :cool:
 
internal wear

when my Honda Civic does this, it's because the plastic inside the shade has deformed. Current generation Civics seem to have a problem with this, especially when it's hot outside. Maybe a new visor is in order?
 
Mine is the same way. I did take it off at one time to look at it but there is nothing real obvious that could be done to fix it. I may take it down again and see if I can come up with something.
 
Is something binding and not allowing it to go up, or does it move freely but not stay up? Hard to say without seeing it and perhaps pulling it apart.
 
My shop is almost done building a machine that assembles the part of the sunvisor that slides and snaps in the up position. These are for the Malibu and some other car, but might be the same mechanics, so let me know what the symptoms are and maybe I'll have a thought.
 
Mine stays up ok in the normal up position but when it is down and pushed toward the windshield it fall back a inch or two and blocks my view. The passenger side does not do this.

Its looks like design issue here. I had same problem so last week I decided to try to fix it. I pull out the rod that hold sunvisor and it was broken inside in to several pieces. The plastic broke right there on the edge where it goes inside the whole thing that swivels. Then I screwed long thread bolt inside and pulled out the other end of the plastic that broke off inside. The plastic end had white grease on it for the metal rod that hidden inside. Its looks like when the plastic bumps wears out it can't hold the weight of the sunvisor anymore and there is no way to fix it. Now I am looking to buy new the whole thing. :wtf:

I do have some screws loose but not on the visor. :banana:
By the looks of the other responses, I will have to buy a new visor.

Thanks vvs75, i wanted to pull my apart too but didnt have the time. I thought i seen a new visor go for $20.00 on the web. I will check out the dealer this weekend end see what they go for.
 
I tinkered with mine a little today. I drove a brass shim between the visor and the shaft to tighten it up. It works ok now but is a little harder to move. It is hard to say how long this will last though.
 
I had this problem for a while as well. And drove me crazy for real!...Mine didn't stay up against the roof, any little bump or sharp curve it will drop down about 2 inches...I tried different solutions with no succes..But without wanting to ....I fixed it!.. :)

I was rushing yesterday morning and I was a little upset at my kids. Started driving to work and drove over the first speed bump at my neighborhood and there it goes the darn thing in my face... got so mad and I grabbed the darn visor thinking about braking it I pulled it down and when I felt the arm bent a little I stopped...and guess what?...I folded it back to normal and BINGO!! no more problems...no more dropping down by itself unless I do it manually . I didn't brake it but I think the inside part did bent a little. That made my morning and my mood changed right away...and my day was great.... :) try it guys It will work and the best part.....it wont' cost you a penny... hehehehe :lmao:

Awesome, I'll tell that to the guy who designs these things at our next meeting!
 
Problem fixed

So today I removed the visor and tried to take out the arm but it wouldn’t come out so just moved it back and forth several time and seem to fix the problem. The visor now goes all the way up and sits flush with the headliner. I sure in a few months it will go back down again.
