Supercharger Question

I was checking out the trd parts website and saw some special oil change kit for 4th generation superchargers (black). It said it recommended to change the oil inside the supercharger at 100,000 miles. I had never heard of this before and wondering if anyone else has a SC and if they've ever done any maintenance on it. I changed the SC belt at 55K miles. I am not sure I have a 4th generation, mine is black but was installed new when I bought it, July 2001.

As far as I know, there are only 2 generations of TRD superchargers for the 5VZFE. The first generation was grey and the second generation one was black. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to refresh the oil inside the S/C, especially if what's been in there has been in there for 100,000 miles

the grey is third gen and black is fourth. why?!?!? I am not sure.

have done some more research since i started the thread. i found the PDF online detailing the procedure. Says should take about 4 hours for the procedure. In looking at the details it would be about 4 hours for a real mechanic....about 4 weeks for me...LOL. Looks like you need to disconnect and remove the SC in order to change the oil inside the nose. This is not like changing the engine oil and is going to be real expensive.

you should be able to get the supercharger off in about 30 mins. Hell, i removed my complete kit in about 30 mins.

You don't have to remove the S/C, you can buy the oil from your local GM dealer its the same blower that they used on the old GTPs. Then take a windex bottle and remove the top, stick the straw down into the filler hole and suck out as much oil as you can. Refill and voila! There isn't much in there, not too hard.

thats a great idea, BUT the likelihood of you being able to remove all of the oil is pretty remote. It does help to change most of the oil though. sure beats taking it completely off.

I agree. To do it right you need to take the s/c off. Also while you are at it, it probably wouldnt be a bad idea to change the front drive seal. They are inexpensive and easy to do. You can get 2 bottles of oil and a seal for less than $30 or $40 from rollingperformance.com. They use the gm supercharger oil which is basically the same stuff as trd just a ton cheaper. I have used this from this company and it worked great

one time i changed my sc oil without taking off the supercharger, and god damn is it a ***** and a half. i am not looking forward to changing it again
