Supercharger Upgrade/Mod questions

OK, finally finished the rebuild on the runner. Starting the install tonight. After I get this thing in and broken in, I'd like to put the SC on, but I have some decisions to make and looking for some opinions...

I'm still a little on the fence about the URD 7th injector kit, vs AEM Fic with new bigger cc injectors...I will be putting an aquamist kit on it, from what I am to understand the 7th injector and water/meth is kind basically carries out the same function, therefore somewhat redundant. But, I may be completely wrong...that's why I'm here :clap2:

I have trd headers and borla muffler, been searching for a high flow cat, but haven't found much on that. It's gotta be pretty much toast being that two valves were burnt and dumping fuel through it for +- 1000 miles before I could park it.

Also from what I understand, the charger would have to come off to install new injectors, so instead of wasting time and money on new gaskets the decision should be made before I install the thing in the first place. If I go the injectors/FIC route I plan on installing the FIC before anything to get used to the tuning with wideband o2s ect. Then add the injectors/SC, then aquamist, then prob a 2.1 pulley. If I go the URD route I will go ahead and put the sc on shortly after I break it in, then URD/Pulley/and aquamist later.

FWIW it's a 4wd 5spd, I do quite a bit of towing with it. Trying to make good power and reliability. Got 308k out of the first motor...

I read through that thread, and there's a ton of info in there. But, I'm having trouble finding answers to what I'm looking for. I'm leaning more toward tokensoultions' kit with injectors and a AEM FIC, but don't know that many with it. Partly because the injectors are all original and I should really be doing something with them too. Only thing is, I won't be able to really do it in stages if I do it that way...

I would go with the URD 7th injector kit. It's proven and the piggyback ecu is pretty much programmed and ready to go. However, IF you have anything other than a stock pulley you may want to have it professionally tuned unless you can tune it yourself.

Slap some injectors, fuel pump, Tstat, and two step colder plugs in it and call it a day. You probably won't really need a tune. Several if my friends have done this and the trucks runs great with no pinging or lean out.

Hit my website and check out the supercharger blog. Skip everything else being mentioned and go with the 7th injector kit. 2.2 pulley on mine for the past 30K miles and it's flawless.

Hey speedy, seen your blog a while back. That's an awesome runner you've got there. Have you ever thought of or played with water meth injection? I noticed you had replaced the differential...is the stock one not sufficient?

That would be Texasace, on yota forum.:hiding:

I wonder how he's managing with the turbo kit. Learned a ton about water meth from his posts and searching there. I see you have the URD kit and water meth, Josh...is that not kind of redundant

I don't need to squeeze every ounce of power from this motor, so I never did water/meth on it. I get close to 10psi from the 2.2 pulley and with the 7th injector it runs great. I dyno/road tuned it myself and have it dialed in pretty good. I honestly didn't want to fool with filling a meth bottle. I would probably pick up 30HP or so if I did go to it but 240 is plenty in this truck.

I did the TrueTrac to get pos in the rear. I love it. Can't even tell it's there until the tires spin.

I just installed some 265/75 Revo 2s on Level 8 MK6 wheels and a 2" TRD Tundra/OME lift and I'm in love with this truck all over again LOL

No he's got it right. TexasAce already has meth injection.

Not from where I'm standing(ok sitting) meth is only injecting above 5-6 psi basically when I jump on it.

TexasAce knows his stuff when it comes to water/meth. He and I had several discussions about it as I also have a built/supercharged 2009 Challenger with a Magnuson blower pushing 15psi 600RWHP. I was interested in it for that car as I drag race it quite a bit.

He was able to completely remove his 7th injector kit, and all, when he put his water meth kit on. The meth raises the octane enough and enrichens the fuel mix on it's own and as a result requires no timing changes so he gets to run full timing as an added benefit.

Have it start to spray at 2-3 psi and the rest can go away.

K.I.S.S.

Gotcha speedy...I guess part of my school of thought with it was that my injectors are original with 308k on them and that they might not be the best to try with doing all this. It sounds like the URD kit is considerably easier and it's a few hundred cheaper too. I' m with you on not needing to squeeze every HP out of it. I just want good power and reliabillity, since I want to keep this thing for a long time, plus I tow a trailer with bikes pretty often...thoughts?

Get the N/A Supra or Lexus SC300 injectors. They flow about 330cc. Plug n play with the the factory wiring harness. You can get a tuner if you want to add a smaller pulley and get it dialed in perfectly.

I'd get 6 new stock injectors and the URD 7th kit with the AIC-T to control timing at part throttle boost. Simple and effective.

You could do 6 all new bigger injectors, but then you're going to have to completely retune the truck from scratch which is a PITA. With the 7th, you only tune in boost and add fuel as needed to keep it 11.5 - 11.8 and call it good.

K.I.S.S. like I said before. You also get the add'l benefit of the fuel cooling the intake charge with the 7th kit. It was a no brainer for me.

I think i'm one of a very few running with the AEM FIC so I'll add something here.
I haven't used the URD control units, btw so I can't directly compare them.
I'm currently running the factory 240cc injectors and controlling them with fic, without issue. I'm able to peg the AFR to 12.5 at mid throttle at a few psi and my stft and ltft's are +/-10 at the worst. farther in it meets up with open loop at about 11.5:1. According to the AEM software, my factory injectors are still only running about 80% at WOT at 5k rpm.
Some things to consider with the AEM FIC6; You will need to wire it into your ECU or pay for a harness. You will need an A/F Ratio gauge. You will also need a scantool of some sort to view your stft and ltft as well as some other useful bits of info. I'm using torque pro on my droid and a cheap obd2 plug-in.
I think you'll figure it out whichever way you do it.

If you really want this to be easy, don't upgrade anything at all. just get a hold of pulleyboys and purchase an oversize pulley that pushes 3-4psi of boost, hook the fuel pressure regulator to your boost port and call it a day.:second:

Well, I finally got the engine right (9 of the 12 valves on the driver's head were out of spec from the shop that built it) and put the supercharger on. Right now I have no ping, but that's probably because it's cold as hell out right now. I know I'm going to end up doing the URD 7th kit, but still a couple questions.

I have 93 octane here (Knoxville, TN) at about 900ft elevation, when I go in the mountains it's usually 3-4000 feet. 2.1 or 2.2 better? May eventually do water meth, but that will be a while, just looking to do the urd kit and pulley in the next couple months after I get some suspension stuff sorted out.

Do I have to get a wideband o2 and a/f gauge, or does the tuning software cover that from URD?

Not sure if it matters with suggestions on the 2.1 vs 2.2, but it has TRD headers, borla cat back, will have a glasspack in place of the cat soon, and I have the airraid intake tube with k&N filter in stock airbox and ISR mod.

The noise from this thing is intoxicating, first time with a supercharger
