I could tell you never served. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, I think sometimes there a bit of arrogance or entitlement that comes from people in the military (in general I mean. I haven't seen that in this thread). But because you've never served, you don't understand how the military works. Not every one is a navy seal. There's people who don't know that the **** they're doing. There's people who are on their third DUI or legal incident that we STILL have trouble kicking out because of all the hoops and paperwork we have to jump through.

Also, and this is me being a realist, if everybody was armed, my least favorite thing about the military would be the ridiculous 3hr wait in the morning and evening everyday at the Armory.

Unfortunately that is what happened last week. The terrorist shot up the recruiters office, then drove over to a reservist base, rammed through the gate and then started shooting.

What that tells me is the gate was not the type designed to stop a vehicle.

The gates here in San Diego that are designed to block vehicles cannot be rammed through with any civilian car or truck. I'm wondering if this TN reservist base was only protected with a simple gate not designed to stop a vehicle.

if done correctly, there would be no need for a trip to the armory. they would just maintain possession.

everyday normal citizens are allowed this right, but not those in charge of protecting the entire nation.

it really amazes me that's this is a thing. that our armed forces, our US military is unarmed. and, seems as though they like it that way? I guess which is the part that really confounds me.

What is the name of this ungated base?

I live in San Diego. Home to over 50,000 active duty across more than 5 bases. Our bases are gated and have armed guards.

I didn't say they were ungated. I said there was no security. A guard shack and a contractor scanning a drivers license as he waves you through is a false sense of security.

I have been on several military installations across the country and have found them all to be the same.

You come across very ignorant of the history and also a bit full of rage. Obama didn't create the executive order stating recruiters shouldn't wear guns. Clinton did and Bush kept it in place as well.

I spent 2 weeks as a recruiter for the special home leave program in 2002 and again in 2004.

I get that you have family in the service but that doesn't make you more of a patriot than Obama or anyone else. Also, I draw a stern line between dependents and those who've served.

If anything as a parent I would think you'd appreciate the moderate stance the President has taken by choosing to not invade Syria and ISIS controlled Iraq.

Other politicians would have sent your children off to war already. There are so many bloodthirsty politicians, many of whom are Republicans, but it is the military not politicians who are put in danger and it is the families who bury the dead.

It's nice to see one of his fans finally step forward...and as far as a history lesson,, here's one for you...ISIS wasn't gunning down Americans on American soil 150 years ago when the law was created....and we didn't have a president in place that lacked the intestinal fortitude to protect US citizens.

Both my daughter and son in law have deployed...so I have sleepless nights and have skin in the game.

I think you and I are pretty similar in thought. It's actually pretty scary to me to see the political posts on fb, on BOTH sides of the issues. Everything is so... Outrageously divisive. Like, this will make "insert political inclination" heads explode. I always read the comments and it's hardcore hate towards fellow Americans just because they think differently than them. And not only that, but the lack of fact checking before sharing/commenting things is piss poor.

I'm a republican, conservative, whatever you want to call it. But people hate Obama for anything and everything. For sh*t the guy has zero visibility on. When this tragedy happened, let me tell you exactly what DIDN'T happen. Some General didn't rush the Oval Office and say, 'Sir we need guns', to which Obama replied, 'No, no guns...tell the Marines to take off their uniforms and hide in shame'. For how I understand the military to work, some General or Colonel in the recruiting command probably made a hasty decision to try and make his recruiters less of a target. If that even happened at all.
