Supra725 Build Thread

so sorry for no updates..

about 2 weeks ago, i went to my friend's shop to swap out the solenoids on my transmission hoping that would fix the po770... but it turned out, it wasn't the solenoids.. it was the torque converter itself..

so I went to transmission specialist and was quoted $1500 to rebuild the transmission otd..

now.. I'm carless for an week.. it sucks... i might have to bring the bike out of the garage..

is there an decent price for rebuild transmission out to door? did i over pay?

about an week and half ago.. I went camping by the beach and it was really nice to get away from this awful heat that we have here..

Im in the same boat bro, tranny will not shift outta first gear, but i think im just gonna get a used tranny for 3-400 bucks and swap in it rather than spending 1500 to rebuild it. Also this has been my way of transportation for the last 2 weeks.

mine would shift fine.. but is when I go over 55 mph.. it won't go into 4th gear.. if i do, the Cel pops on... back when it was working fine, i'm usually at 2k rpm @ 67 mph.. but now, it would somewhere be in the 2300-2400 rpm at the same speed..

lucky you have your bike, I don't... I might have to go back to public transport the next couple days.. errr.

it turns out things are a bit more south..

the shop I had to do my work isn't picking up the phone.. I was promised friday the car would be ready to roll but is now sunday and I'm still carless..

i called them all day yesterday and they didn't pick up once..

I'm a bit pissed.. i never had been apart with the runner this long.. is like not seeing your girlfriend.. i hate this feeling..

i'm hoping the get their act together come monday and have the rig back up and running by tuesday.. if not.. I'm going to be furious..

Got your IB there Al, just go down there Monday in wrenching attire, and ask them " do I have to get in there to get this done", LOL. Good luck there.

Nice pictures, doing a get away next week just up the road with the kids, just a quick get away, paid camping, just to please the girls.

i got some bad news..

the mechanic never picked up the phone till today and they said. the tranny can't be rebuild, you need an new tranny.. it took them 10 days to do that? is it that figuring hard? so tomorrow I'm going to rip them an new one.. I'm hoping they can put it together and I'm going to take it to my mechanic..

I had never seen an shop ran this bad.. is unacceptable on so many levels..

I'm still carless.. fml..

Always helps if you personally know someone in the business.

Get your 4Runner out of that shop ASAP and leave a nice review for them online after. I can't stand shady repair shops which is quite a large portion of repair shops in general.

Sucks to hear about your transmission. I can't believe the shop wasted your time like that. Stuff like that is what makes me not trust mechanic shops. If I were you I would just buy a new OEM trans. You can get one from Camelback Toyota parts for $1440 with free shipping. Good luck man!

Did you get your money back for paying $1,500 for a rebuild and then being told you need a new tranny?

I will find out today,my father is going down to the shop to get my rig back today hopefully.. I have already paid an deposit too to have it rebuild..

i bet my runner is going to be on the rack without the transmission in it.. I don't care, but I'm going to get my car back today and have it towed to my mechanic and have it stored there instead.. this mechanic was an recommendation from my father's co-worker since he takes his cars there all the time.. but my experience with them is nothing but poor.

it shouldn't have taken that long to tell me that it needs a new tranny after being told it was rebuildable..

i haven't had my truck this long before.. today will be the 10th day of it.. errr

Supra725: Do this! Online reviews can truly dampen companies reputations, and people need to know of these incidents. It might make them think twice before getting lazy.

update..

so my father's co-worker gave the owner of the shop a call since they know each very well.. and now my rig should be running by tomorrow.. they are going to rebuild my transmission for less than what it was quoted for..

after getting my rig back tomorrow, I'm going to be leaving them a very through review..

i had an friend of mine that had this happened also.. but instead of 10 days, it was 3 months till he got his car back.. i swear, shops like these should not even be in business.. with the day they handled the business, is unacceptable on so many levels..

i hope they know what they are doing, rebuilding tranny takes skills, do it wrong and it'll go again in a couple of years.

update..

so the shop told me they order the wrong part.. is it that hard to find an a340f when i stated is an 4wd to begin with..

another day without my car..

the lady on the phone doesn't help what so ever.. tells me how she doesn't want my car in the shop either.. really... on top of that, I asked her when my car is ready, all she said was ' i don't know'... every answer is always i don't know.. is ridiculous..

I'm going about 2 weeks without my car.. errr.

so finally got her on the phone again before they closed for the day..

the got the right tranny to get the parts off of to rebuild mine.. but what I don't get is it shouldn't take 2 weeks to get the parts..

I would get a scooter but I have been driving my mum's c55 around for the past 2 weeks until my rig is back.. is nice having all the power..

but man, it sucks not having the rig in the driveway..

how's your runner coming along? any progress?

update..

stop by the shop today and saw my rig on the lift without the transmission in it of course..

the boss was finally there and he was apologetic.. and my tranny is on the bench wrapping up.. he told me by monday afternoon, my rig would be back up and running..

so that's about it.. kinda of happy but pissed off at the same time..
