Surco Safari Rack

I know what you mean! I've been robbing from my Firebird restoration funds to upgrade the 4Runner! This :flipoff: is what my Firebird does whenever I walk by!! :biggrin2:

I've got a Surco for my 4th gen, and my only complaint is that they don't make a wind fairing for it. Thule has a fairing that may work if I could fab some square brackets to adapt from the Thule square tube size to the Surco tube size. Other than that I love the thing. Can't wait to mount a hi-lift, shovel, and axe on it. And when I step up to 33s I have the spare tire mount kit, too.

I noticed that too. I saw somewhere on this forum or Yotatech that others have modified another fairing to work. Once I get it mounted I'm going to check into that too. I'll let you know what I find out.

Installed!!!!!

Well, I'll try this again. I just finished typing everything in and when I went to preview it, it was gone! Oh well. Here we go again!

I ordered the Surco Safari Rack 45x50 from Summitracing.com late on 08/30/06 and received it on 09/05/06! :zoom: Good job Summit Racing!!

My total install time was about 4 hours, but easily could have been cut in half without all the inevitable interuptions!

I only had a few problems with the rack:

1 - Some holes were pre-drilled too small and made inserting the screws in quite a job.

2 - Had one side of the basket that was slightly bent, but didn't cause any trouble during installation (and you can't tell once the rack is put together.)

3 - One of the rails had a "high" spot that made inserting the "special" nuts a little difficult.

4 - The instructions SUCKED!!!! :cursin:

The instructions were the biggest issue. They were VERY anemic. Not sure why companies go cheap on instructions. I spent plenty of time trying to decifer what the heck the instructions were trying to explain to me. Guess I shoulda done like usual and just ignored them!

I'm glad I got the 45x50 and not the 45x60. The 45x60 would have covered the sunroof. As it is, once I get the Hella 500's installed, it'll be plenty tight up there.

I can't wait to get my Hellas in. The Driving lights came in today, and the Fogs should be in any day now. I'll probably have to wait to install them until next week or the week after. Once installed I'll post a pic of them. BUT, for now here are some pics of the rack installed.

For those of you thinking about going with the 45x60, here is a picture from the front of the basket to the sunroof.

Here is the one full view pic from today. It didn't come out very good because of the background. I'll take a few more tomorrow and post em.
