Check out Mancora, great little beach town. Caravaned there thru the desert and spent a week of fun a few years back

That's on the short list as of now. May be heading south of Lima to meet up with a friend, so we'll see if that happens.

Honestly, I don't even know where the factory is. I do know where one of the owners has a house and it sits right on one of the most epic hidden PNW breaks. Surfed with him a few times too. Super nice guy.
My friend picked up one of the puddle jumpers. Rode it once. It was a bit of a mess being it had been such a long time since I've ridden anything like it, but he few waves I did catch on it were super fun. Was surprised at how well it paddled.

Who has any retirement surf town suggestions? Requirements are not too cold, decent cost of living, decent waves, etc. My first choice would be somewhere in Hawaii but I don't want to leave my kids on the mainland.
Been in California my whole life, and while I love the surf here this place is a joke and the state is going in a bad direction as of late.
The Carolinas, Florida, Texas, Alabama? Throw me some suggestions!

Hawaii as an option with decent cost of living?! I guess if you're in the OC, then it is probably decent in comparison. Personally, I'd choose Hawaii if I could. So temperate year round and surf on every corner of every island. I've never had too much of an issue finding clean surf as well as a break that was relatively uncrowded.
Where is you family located? Because if they're on the west coast, it seems like it would be a bit closer to get to from Hawaii than say Florida.
I wouldn't think anything in the gulf would be consistent enough to warrant a move there for surf. But I also have no experience with it.
I'd love to live for a bit in the Santa Barbara area, but I'm not sure that falls into the "decent cost of living" category.
What about San Diego? Crowded and expensive I know, but the breaks just on the other side of the border are great and uncrowded.

My kids are in HS, one a freshman and one a senior. I don't want to abandon them and go to Hawaii with the wife, although walking around at Christmas time with no shirt on is appealing. Job prospects for the kids don't seem so good in the Islands, should the kids come with us. The rest of my family moved from here to Tennessee and Wisconsin. I'm not worried about them.
I'm 50 and will retire in three years, four at the most. No super thrilled about the direction California is heading, that is why I am starting to look for a better place. Been thinking about the Carolinas.

This thread takes me back to some incredible memories! I grew up surfing wind chop in South Florida with my brother and a couple of other goons and was fortunate enough to surf all over the caribbean, california, and central america. Kinda miss ditching the last class of high school to try and catch a couple of waves.
Originally I moved to colorado to snowboard more but now all I want to do is surf! I have found that rock climbing gives me the same feeling as sitting out in the lineup waiting for that right wave to roll through. My climbing crew in colorado consists of my brother and another great surfing buddy from our Florida days. It's hilarious, whenever we are all together at the crag we almost immediately default to surf talk and planning out trips! I'll see if I can dig up some old pictures.

My other go to sport is bouldering. I've considered a move to the Colorado area, but don't think I could ever leave access to waves.

You guys been getting in the water? Just got back from a short trip to the coast. Mixed bag. Sunday was amazing. Monday I spent more time taking waves on the head than actually riding them.

I hate when that happens (getting beat down more than riding..) :sad:
Right now, I haven't been getting out. We've had some swell hit around my local spot - but our good season is just about to start up (probably next month). So looking forward to getting back out soon as "winter" fills in. :yo:

I've never tried it, but a buddy of mine just gave it a go down in Oregon. Said it's a ton of fun as well as being very tricky. Said it feels a lot like wake surfing.
