Surf-rods on roof?

Hey folks
I have an '11 SR5. I need to be able to carry multiple surf rods on the roof of my buggy. In the past I've used a modified Yakima ski rack that locked onto cross bars that locked into corner edge of roof. It worked okay. There are commercially available locking rod racks but they need something to be attached to. So far I haven't seen anything that can lock securely onto the stock rack.i don't have cross bars and am will to get them. Is the trail rack better? I'm not even confidant in how secure the stock rack is. I know that if a theif is determined they'll just cut or rip off the whole rack. But I'd still like to feel like they're relitively safe enough to leave for a food, fuel bathroom stop.
Any suggestions?

Most of the people I have seen around the OBX with rods on the roof are using the ski racks. I talked to a few guy last summer that swear by them. I'll be picking up a set to use for our trip there this summer. What exactly didn't you like about them? Is it how they attach or did they not hold the rods securely enough?
