I'm actually still fighting over the value of the Land Cruiser with my insurance, 2 months have passed...still a long ways from resolution. As for a replacement, nothing that would fill the void has come across my radar yet. Who knew there was a finite supply of low km, good condition, turbo diesel Toyota's on a tiny island in the Pacific?

I'm actually still fighting over the value of the Land Cruiser with my insurance, 2 months have passed...still a long ways from resolution. As for a replacement, nothing that would fill the void has come across my radar yet. I had planned to get the LC appraised after the headaches I went through with the Surf, but I hadn't gotten it to the point where it was "ready" yet. Ready or not, life keeps coming at full speed I suppose.

And now for some good news! My insurance made me a new offer based on an appraiser's research they had done, and is much closer to the ballpark I need to be in. I've made a counteroffer, fingers crossed I could have that nastiness behind me before long!

And my importer has 2 HDJ81's that he just picked up, details are scarce but he has not disappointed me so far. All I know is that one is a silver over maroon color scheme (my least favorite), with factory 7 passenger seating (VERY rare on a diesel cruiser, standard on all the gassers we got in North America), with leather seats in good shape, and 3X lockers. Zero details on the other truck. There is light at the end of the tunnel!:rockon:

paint is easy to fix... a few beers and some cans of spray from your local auto parts store and your good to go!:thumb::behindsofa:

Maroon is still better than beige/gold/bland though... Sounds like a sweet truck. Hope you can get this all squared away soon!!

Figured I'd update this, the last couple LC's my importer had picked up were not up to his standards, and went back to auction. He finally found another recently, and it's got my name on it!

'93 Land Cruiser HDJ81 VX Ltd., 88,XXX kms, F&R lockers, winch, console fridge, aluminum front bumper, looks to be lifted already on 285/75/16 TA/KO's, and in very good shape. There's a few things I'll be changing ASAP such as the purple tint, decals, and the chrome piping on the window flares, but a good solid platform to start over with.

I have no time to go get it or do anything with it at the moment, just had a little one in early Sept. and started a new job, so I'll have him keep it in Japan till next summer, and plan a trip to BC to bring it back in August likely. Feels like a long time away, but I've already been without for a long time, and at least I know it's there waiting for me.

New garage is finally wrapping up, I was painting the inside today with the wife and my Dad, so that's a great thing! Plan is to have it back together and ready for some work before the new rig makes it home, so I'll be busy.

no that rig looks sweet! looks like a TJM bumper and Jaos wheels, i love those wheels btw. too bad its not a manual trans, but with everything you are getting i could easily over look that. i love those headlights with the amber fogs built in too!

did you do anything cool or new to the new garage, any add-on/ins that the old one didnt have or you wanted? glad things are moving forward and you didnt just give up! -ps you need to get another surf some time too

Thanks guys! Addison, that would be amazing if you were around to show me some trails when we're on our way through, I'll be sure to let you know when I get dates nailed down.

There better not be a next fire, not sure I could take that, lol. The wheels are Deerfields, they were made by both Work and Enkei, with a few differences depending on which it was. I'm not sure which these are yet.

New garage will be a bit better, since I had to start all over again. It's 28x30 with a 6" curb, and 9' walls for a 9'6" ceiling. I also ran the lines for in-floor heat, although I won't have that operational this year. It's 2x6 construction, R20 walls, R28 ceiling, floor drain, and taller doors than the last one. 2x 220v, 100 amp panel, internet, storage attic, etc. It's going to be nice once I get it set up. Gotta take this as an opportunity to upgrade, put a positive spin of some sort on it. I did some things this time around that I just didn't have the budget for on the 1st try, which was about 7-8 years ago now, right after we bought the house.

put an ARB bumper on it to protect and the baby in the event of a accident, give it some lockers and dura-tracs, you know make it safe for her to drive in the winter, put some sliders on to protect the paint and doors from shopping carts and careless people in grocery store parking lots... just saying... :decision:

Well, it's got the Duratracs, weathertechs, GROM USB2 aux in setup w/ bluetooth, and some maintenance, so I'd say it's doing pretty well for itself, lol.
