Hey guys, just joined up and looking for some information. My 91 is in need of new rear coil springs and new shocks. I am going to order Moog or Summit coils for a factory ride height. I am not looking for a lift, and these seem to be a popular factory height replacement spring.
1. When I replace the springs, I want to install new shocks. I am kinda lost on this. I just want a good shock that will not blow out or leak a month or two after I put them on. Any suggestions for front a rear shocks? I am seriously considering going with Bilstein HD. I know that they are a quality shock from first hand experience. They are a little pricey though.
2. I would like to add a locker or other traction aiding device to the rear end. As it happens, my buddy has a mint condition complete rear out of an 07 Tacoma prerunner. We haven't dropped the 3rd yet, but it does have either a LSD or Elocker. Could I install that 3rd in my 91 axle?? I read that the newer trucks have a larger carrier bearing and will not fit an older model 8" housing without a little work.
Thanks much for any advice you all can give me. If that 3rd will fit in my housing without modification, I would be very pleased. It would take the sting off of ordering a new locker and regearing the front and rear.
My 4Runner is a 91 SR5, 3.0, Auto, with 4.10 open diffs if that helps any.
