Suspension comfort

I have been looking through all the suspension related threads and posts for months. I haven't seen much, except in the 5th gen section, about options to improve comfort without considering lift.

I dont have any need to lift my 4runner, but my v8 SR5 is still on original suspension components from 2007.

What would you all suggest if the only objective was best comfortable ride on the highway? I'm not opposed to a lift, just don't need it.

If you aren't looking for any lift (keep in mind that -new- stock coils will probably eliminate some sag you might currently have) you might just want to replace the shocks. If ride plushness is something you are after, look for a twin-tube shock. Dobinson would be a good option.

Twin tube shocks(Dobinsons) are ideally more comfortable ride than mono tube(Bilstein) but I've seen some people say that the Dobinsons ride a little more harsh than the bilstein 5100. I don't have either but I'm going to give Dobinsons a shot when my funds are right. I'm also looking for a comfortable ride but I do want a lift and I want to get rid of the body roll and brake dive as well.

Stay with P rated tires.

My bet is stock/stock replacement shocks and good P tires aired down a little.

Larger shocks set to zero lift height: Bilstein 5100, Bilstein 6112,Dobinsons = Great Options. Want the best ride? FOX or KING 2.5" coilovers w/ adjusters set to zero lift height.

P rated tires with proper air level.

Smaller wheel size, drop from 17/18 to 16" and get more rubber.

This is great info. Some things that I never thought of too.

I think I'll pick up some dobinsons shocks soon. I'll see what I can do about tires, I'll be needing to replace those in the next couple months.
