Suspension lift advice

This is my 2000 4Runner. I'm looking for advice on a suspension lift.

My goals are to gain more clearance for my 255/75/17 tires when I am using it at my hunting lease. I don't plan on going any bigger on the tire size.

This is my daily driver when I don't have to pull something with my 3/4 ton for work or play, so ride quality is extremely important to me.

Current set-up.

for DD, i'd suggest only lift enough to gain the additional clearance you are looking for. 2" lift you can do suspension only and not unravel other required mods.

"so ride quality is extremely important to me" - I put in the Bilstein 6112 up front. Ride is like a magic carpet. In back, the OME 906 seems to be the go-to for 2" and it matches the 6112 very well. At first I thought they were too stiff, but after a couple months everything settled and it's worked awesome for my DD.

Good luck and have fun.

What did your search results turn up?

There's a load of info in here to be sure, but sometimes people just want others to indulge them and help enjoy the process. That's what makes this forum better than others.

That's nice to be indulgent, but it makes it harder to search for info when you have so many new threads with no new info. If you search first and come up with specific questions then you'll get specific answers...or maybe no answers and you'll have to find out on your own, and then you can post up your findings. That's what makes a great forum.

Good way to put it. This is a good one too - http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-g...te-search-toyota-4runner-3rd-gen-section.html

Are you on stock shocks in the rear?

As far as ride quality goes get Kings. I had 6112's and switched, it was a night and day difference. Not saying anything negative about the 6112's, but they just don't compare. The Kings are much smoother on an off road.

You're absolutely right. I suppose it's a balance between a store of information and a community.

I'm not suggesting we all sing Kumbaya and walk around holding hands, but sometimes it just feels like people are too quick with the search thing. Like most people, I also get irritated when people obviously are lazy and want others to do the research for them. Other times when someone shares a pic of their truck and shares a bit about the 'why' they are asking, it seems like a chance to give benefit of the doubt that they are showing up with an intention to be part of the community with potential to contribute more and post up their own findings.

No worries, I agree with you about muddied content. I just see this a lot and thought I would put a little lube into the first thread that 4runner_noobie started.

Not so much here on this cordial forum, but I'm sure we've all seen posters ripped for both:

1. Starting yet another thread on a seemingly well-covered topic or
2. Reviving an "old" one...

Damned either way, lol.

For those of who do search, and I do for sure, internally (here) and external (Google, the www), once relevant discussions or threads are found, that quandary often presents itself.

For me, if the last post was within a few months, np, I respond. Even if out a year or so, and it's highly relevant to my question or situation, I'll respond. More so if there are not tons of related discussions, even more current ones, that might prompt some backlash.

I prefer when one puts forth a concerted effort to first do some research, and after that, with due diligence applied, the path taken (1 or 2) is of little concern, for me at least...

I will never buy anything King ever again after a certain person on here had them on for less than a week and had one bend. King won't warranty it - doesn't even want to look at it first. Offered to fix it for $400. Pathetic support for someone that just spent $$$

Matt is getting screwed? Dang. I have brand new fronts waiting to get installed, and working on purchasing King rears now...

Was there a defect in materials or workmanship? That's Kings policy right.
Someone in said persons thread said there is a learning curve with dual cases dual locked. With all the carnage from that trip said person learned the hard way. Is what it is.

How do they know if they don't look at it.

OK, I'll bite since you are trolling. How do you bend the shaft of a front coilover without breaking or bending your UCA, LCA, coil bucket, spindle, or any of the bolts holding said parts together? And there was no direct impact to the coilover. I will await your answer...

Dual locked with dual cases has nothing to do with it. If it did both my Bilsteins should be bent by now.

I'm literally buying King rear shocks now as I just got some answers addressed, and what looks to be a good price. Dang. I do so reluctantly...

Those front Kings look very substantial. Geez, at a minimum, I would like to see King show interest to at least look at them...

kings should look at the shock and then come to a decision but regardless whose fault if they were smart they should favor the customer and right off the 400 as customer satisfaction and it will give them an edge over their competitors, word of mouth etc. specially the kind of amazing rig that the kings were installed on.

Any warranty beyond materials and workmanship is at manufacturers discretion.

Ok I'll bite since you took the bait. Weren't you there did Matt power through any obstacles that dual locked dual case would magnify the stress to drivetrain.
The other day I did some serious thinking on the carnage, with the way diff mount broke and one bent hit pan serious torque there. One CV looks as it was at the end of cup, strain ripped cup not the look of exploding like spinning tire hit the ground.
One thing I wonder has Matt put it on alignment rack to see if LCA mounting points or others are out, If he had before alignment specs compare to after might show something. As for bending rod end, seems like a victim of all the other stresses and deflection going on. A lot of wrong things came together at right time to cause all the damage. Oh yea bent OTRE. If trail was that rough why didn't others break stuff, just the way it works out sometimes.
