Suspension Lift for 2014 T4R with KDSS?

I know someone is going to say it so it might as well be me...the "best" lift is whichever lift suits your needs the "best". I'm in the same boat as you where i'm looking for my "best" option for a lift for my 2015 Trail T4R. I've looked at Toytec mostly but am starting to move away from the kit they offer due to the fact i can't rebuild the shocks.

I'm also only going to be offloading about 30 % of the time. The rest of the time my T4R will be used as my daily commuter (20 miles national forest backroads) so i'm looking for something that will maintain a nice ride on the road. So, i'm starting to lean towards Icon and King as my top two brands for suspension kits.

Now that i've said of this, i can start on my next dilemma. I tow a 3000# pop up camper and a 2000# enclosed trailer when i take time off to go play, so now i'm trying to figure out if a kit is the best way to go or if i should mix and match components (which i have NO problem doing if it's going to satisfy my needs in the long run). Now i'm look at spring rates, different brands, how much additional load the springs are rated for, blah blah blah.

This is ultimately a decision that you have to make on your own. If you have more specifics about what you want to accomplish, i'm sure everyone on here will have an opinion to give you and then you'll have to go from there. Maybe in writing this, someone out there will help me with my decision as well but i'm the kind of person that a year and half just choose a lift.

After a month on here, I definelty learned that. There isn't really a best for the vehicle but for the person/invented usage. Just reading, researching, and talking to different people I've definelty narrowed my decision down. Thank you

I'm in the same boat, taking my time to make the right decision picking a lift for my 2016 TE w/KDSS here in the Bay Area. I don't have any experience with lift systems and therefore don't know the difference. I am relying on a combination of the experience of people on this forum and talking to the local shops in person (the dealers seem to have zero experience).

Did you end up deciding on a suspension lift that will suit your needs. I have similar uses and am in the initial planning phase right now for best bumper, sliders, skids, and for me what seems to be the hardest choice is the correct adjustable suspension lift that is rebuild-able and hopefully does not break the bank to much. I am hoping to have everything figured out/ordered/installed by 01 May. Mine will be set-up for overland use/commuting, and pulling an off-road camping trailer. This forum has an amazing amount of information/resources and is almost a full time job researching what will work best for my specific needs.

It's only taken me....since i bought my 4runner in 2015 to decide on a lift (this week). I'll hopefully be getting this installed this coming week in NOVA, because i'm not too interested in taking a chance screwing up the KDSS system.

Now i've started to obsess over what wheels (most likely SCS F5s) i'll add on later this year.

Hi everyone! New guy here. I have been offroading for decades. Most recently with an 02 taco 4wd. It is time to make some changes.....

I am buying a 2014 TE. I plan to do a 2 inch suspension lift on it. The local Off Road Warehouse rep said to NOT get KDSS if I planned to lift it.

I am seeing articles here on guys lifting their 4Rs with KDSS. I even looked at one today with a 3 inch lift and KDSS, but these are older 5th Gens.

Whats the deal here? Can I lift a 2014 with KDSS? It is not possible for the dealer to find a 2014 TE without KDSS. So, if I really don't want the magic suspension, I have to custom order a 2015 and wait 4 to 5 months.

Yes. It can be lifted with KDSS. It's a little more challenging as you have to secure the swaybar in some fashion. There's quite a few write-ups here.

A 2" lift is no issue with it. A 3" lift is no issue either. Now, once you start talking about 4" plus.... now you're getting into territory where it may be an issue.

Part of the problem may be how you asked. You said lift thinking 2". He may have heard "lift" thinking 6"+. And did you talk to a sales person? Or the people doing the work? Keep in mind... it can be a bit more hassle to do it on a KDSS rig... so they may be inclined to say non-KDSS just to make their own lives easier. I know... I know... I'm taking the pessimistic view of humanity. lol

So, take what the rando guy at ORW says with a grain of salt.

New rims do dress them up nicely, I am sure you will find the perfect ones for what you are wanting. I ended up going with Enkei ST6 in gunmetal color and just got them a few days ago. Here is the link to my build showing them.

I went to High Tech Auto in Chantilly, VA. If you search the forums you'll find a few threads specifically about the shop and some of the other work they've done for members of the site. I am beyond satisfied with the service that i received (Joe was the Sales person i spoke with) before choosing them as the shop and after install was completed.

Joe took the time to speak with me over the phone at least three different occasions so that i could find the right lift for my needs. Once that was decided on, the service team worked with my schedule (which was limited to two days in the area for a concert) to get the lift installed.

I can not say enough kind things about this shop. Be warned, depending on what kind of work you need done (KDSS equipped 4runner lift install) they will most likely be one of the more expensive shops you find when it comes to labor. That being said, they are in the NOVA area and shit just cost more in that area. Regardless, i'd go back today and pay whatever they were asking because i know my T4R will be well taken care of.

Thanks for that. Some work I'll do myself, but I know my limits. And when I reach those, I'll pay for quality.
And I'm all too familiar with NOVA pricing. It's changed a lot since when I was a kid.
